Marvin's jab was mustard as well, hurtful punch and threw it in different ways.

I can watch it all day. Hagler's own fault he lost that fight.

I know.

Still can't watch it though.

In every sport that I watch there's one contest/ending that I just have to leave to gather dust, Hagler vs Leonard is the one for boxing.

I know the feeling. To this day I still haven't watched Conteh-Saad Muhammed II.

Young Bowe was a beast & one of my favourites. I love the Cooper fight, here's the KD & the finish..

Cheers mate, seeing a heavy throw accurate combo's is too rare a sight nowadays

A Lewis fight woulda been sweet
I reckon bowe could take early 90's Lennox

It's a pity he didn't share your confidence, mate.

Haha fair point, I'd have to fancy him though, if he dragged Lewis in to a mercer esque firefight. Which wouldn't be the easiest thing to do to what woulda been a 100% focused Lewis ( who always steps his game up for the big challenges )

It would've been good to see it happen. But to be honest. We haven't missed out on a whole lot historically because of it. I think people over do the significants of it. Lennox certainly doesn't suffer because that fight didn't happen for me. I think LL beats Bowe pretty much anytime. And of course bashed him up in the ams then they were closer to the pro game. Fact is Riddick outright refused the fight and that's on him.

Oh you can't hold it against Lennox at all. Bowe avoided him, simple as. There is a plethora of great heavy fights in the 90's and your right in saying it doesn't detract from the era. However I still think bowe at his best in the pro's is a different animal to the Amateur one, his size, athleticism, jab and inside fighting give Lennox problems.
All of this said, I'm watching the Mercer-Lewis fight now and I'm now leaning back towards Lewis
I wouldn't be massively confident picking a winner if I had too

I just tried to 'sit on the toilet' going out of the room to get a beverage. Almost done my knees in.

Yeah i know the feeling. It's hard for me to watch Pete vs Chavez knowing what happens at the end. The only ones that i struggle to watch the most though are 'tragic' fights like Eubank/Watson 2, Benn/G-man, Anifowoshe/Quiroga etc. Don't think i've seen them more than once. Even though they're such epic fights.

I found this to be an interesting fight to watch in the context of how far the modern amateur style seems to be from the pros. What struck me about this is how stylistically developed both guys are as amateurs, compared to the more generic/textbook amateur style we see today.

Hearns hasn't quite learned to set his feet yet, and he is a bit right hand happy without the jab he'd showcase later on, but Aaron Pryer at times looks exactly like the finished article. In both cases considering their ages they are very well developed fighters compared to the current crop of amateurs. Now obviously there is the huge difference in size of talent pool, but I also think this highlights more that todays amateur boxing, with the new scoring method, is a different sport. Not the proving ground for future pro talent that it once was.

I find amateurs hard to spar with at times but their style is totally unsustainable over 4-6 rounds.
