Incredibly thorough thread!

Mammadov at 91 has massive potential, I think he is still like 19. Does anyone know if he is ethnic Azeri or from the Caucasus, Dagestan, Ossetia ect?

I saw Russo live at a WSB event in Hollywood. He fights for the Rome squad and has not lost to my knowledge. I really hate his style and he wins so ugly. He struggled big time while getting a SD over a very inexperienced and seemingly limited fighter representing the home town LA Matadors.

Super Heavy, 91+, the final weight that Ireland is looking for a qualifier-there are only two places left for Europe. Con Sheehan is new to the weight and might be the best boxer at the weight but has the power/bulk/punch resistance to make it. It's tough as Russia hasn't a qualifier and Omarov or Kuzmin will be a big favourite but not unbeatable. Sheehan beat a Moroccan at the London pre-Olympics that out-pointed Kuzmin at the Worlds, so anything is possible.
Outside the Russians Zuyev of Belerous , whoever Ukraine select (Kapitanenko?), and Zuyev will have experience while the Croat Hrgovic, Yoga from France and Nistor, a Romanian with a wicked punch but little skills represent the young brigade. It's a damn interesting weight.
On a side note, with only 16 boxers at the games and 2 from Africa, 3 from the Americas, 1 from Asia and 1 from Oceania any European making it just needs a good draw to get in the medal hunt.
1-Medzhidov-Azer-Qualified
2-Jushua-GB-Qualified
3-Omarov-Russia-there best man but will they pick him?
4-Cammarelle-It-Qualified
5-Kuzmin_Russia
6-Pfeiffer-Ger-Qualified
7-Zuyev-Bel
8-Hrgovic-Cro
9-Nistor-Rom

Kuzmin deserved the win vs Arjaoui. Do you know if Yoka or Abdelghani from Israel are going? Russia can only send 1 correct?

Kuzmin/Omarov
Zuyeu
Kapitonenko
Hrgovic
Yoka
Nistor
Sheehan

and only 2 qualify, damn. alot of good SHW's wont even be at the Olympics. Why do the Americas get 3 spots?

If Hrogvic somehow misses qualification he should immediately turn Professional. He should make a big splash as a pro. I was suprised he did not finish Dychko as the World's. He fell behind early but had Dychko stumbling all over the ring during the last round.

If he were American, promoters would be throwing seven figure contracts at his feet.

Personally I hope he qualifies and gets Mezhidov at the Olympics. That would be a brutal fight.

He had Dychko in more trouble than Medzhidov did but Dychko won both fights. Hrgovic was still 19 at Worlds so if he waited for the next Olympics he would still only be 23/24 when going pro afterwards. It would be nice to see him go pro but if he doesnt go the the olympics i doubt it and i wouldn't blame him.

Not sure about the Isreali but I'd say Yoga will be in Turkey, may not be just good eneough.I thought Kuzmin beat the Morroccan too but it was closer than it should have been.
Americas getting three is not too bad, A Cuban, probably the USA and a Venezuelan are ok but Oceania and Africa?

If continents weren't guarenteed a certian number of spots and they all had to qualify on merit the USA wouldn't even be at the Olympics at SHW. Looking at that depth of talent at qualifiers Thompson, who they sent to Worlds, would have 0% chance of making it through those Europeans.

The Chemiepokal tournament is being streamed live on figosport.de. Not sure about the schedule but the preliminaries are over. Only caught two fights thus far but I saw Kuzmin defeat Dychko +4 - 4 in a fight neither impressed in. Also saw Nistor stop Abudalaev (Uzb). He looked pretty good.
I read that Sheehan lost to Zhang and Pfeiffer advanced by beating a Turk.

Yeah O'Neil also beat Juratoni at 75kg 16-13.
Ward beat Rasulov at 81kg 20-9.
David Oliver Joyce beat Brill the youth Olympic champ on countback.

Con Sheehan lost to Zhang 14-9 but was suffering from a flu also O'Neil was beat in his next fight against the Kazack but he hurt his shoulder against Juratoni .

Semi finals are live.
Sorry to hijack but I thought it's better to keep it here as it is somewhat relevant to the topic.

Not really impressed with the scoring... Though Bivol won that one. Scoring in the Conlon match was funny as well.

... got to go cook now.
