Default How does your top 5 of all-time at 205 look?

I've thought about this, but find it too hard to put these guys into a definite order:

Shogun
Wanderlei
Rampage
Bones
Chuck
Hendo

In terms of their top 5 wins at the weight, Rampage seems to have as good a case as anyone. In terms of achievement at the weight, Shogun has to be right up there for winning the '05 GP then winning the UFC title, as well as having a very strong top 5 wins himself. In terms of career greatness at the weight, Wandy has his run in Pride complimented by the two epic wins over Rampage. In terms of ability shown at the weight, Bones looks like he could be the best ever there (the Machida win convinced me a lot, though I still maintain the '05 Shogun was a monster).

Anyone got a clear top 5 for this weight class?

Bones' 4th best win at 205 is either Bader, Bonnar or Matyushenko. Has he really earned the top spot already? I can't agree. Not yet. Ability-wise, he may be the best ever (though I really want Machida to earn a rematch with him before he disappears to hw), but overall he can't be the numero uno IMO.

The whole point of the thread is to ask if people can put them into an order. At gunpoint, how would you rank these guys?

I think I'd go with this. Hendo split his career between 185 & 205, and his set of top wins/performances at 205 are not spectacular. I expect Jones to climb this table after he annihilates Rashad and defeats Hendo this year, but as of now, I'll go with this exact top 5 as well.

If Jones pulls that off (which is exactly what I expect him to do), it'd be hard to argue against him being no. 1

He might even get the rematch with Shogun or Machida, and wreck either of them again.

I have it Liddell, toss-up between Shogun and Wand, Henderson, then Ortiz.

It's very hard. I think Chuck is better than Wanderlei, but Chuck lost to Rampage, and I don't think Chuck could defeat Shogun head to head in each other's primes. Shogun caught Liddell when his chin had faded, but I believe Rua would win prime vs prime as well. I think Wanderlei has a better resume than Shogun. Rampage could not defeat Shogun, and lost 2 out of 3 to Wanderlei, but he beat Liddell.

Then you have Dan Henderson to think about.

Jon Jones may jump to the top of the list very soon, but he isn't there yet. Jones is on a spectacular run, but I would like to see his resolve tested a little more. Machida won the first round against him, but never really had Jones close to being finished. Still, even without being in a more competitive fight, I won't be able to deny Jones a spot in the top 5 if he gets past Rashad.

For now...

Liddell
Wanderlei
Shogun
Rampage
Henderson

Roy Jones would beat any middleweight and super middleweight ever. Deal with it.

1. Wandy - pride on his streak.
2. Henderson.
3. Couture.
4. Shogun.
5. Tito Ortiz beginning of his career / Chuck - at his streak / Rampage - because he is always dangerous.

May I add that Whitaker takes Duran at lightweight?

Man, you are really on topic with this 205 lb. discussion aren't you?
