Mccall says he knocked Tyson down in sparring wearing 18oz gloves when he was training for the spinks fight in 1988.
Did Tyson ever manage to knock Mccall down? |

Greg Page is the man catching Tyson before the douglas fight in sparring, and yes, it was more of a slip, Tyson was coming forward and quickly slipped and went to a knee. Big deal anyway, is this going to be Mccall's new claim to fame, Holyfield got dropped by GARY BELL before the Tyson fight but he couldn't hold holy's spit bucket. The best of the best have been knocked down.

I feel it's irrelevant if Tyson was knocked down by McCall or not. What we should highlight is how competetive Tyson's sparring partners were back then.
I bet there were some heated exchanges with McCall/Tyson, but that's what keep's a fighter sharp, keeps him motivated & keeps him learning. What's the point of having sparring partners who you can jusat beat upon, who do not give/try their best back to you? I feel true, competetive sparring is what Tyson lacked, especially when he hooked up with King. There's no way Rooney would allow Tyson to spar guys who would show nothing during the session. |
