I have never sparred MMA. I have sparred MMA fighters who wanted to Box... they are too open and too wide/wild for boxing.

obviously, getting in the cage will be a different story.

anyways I will post later... hopefully with pix/video if someone tells be how to post them.

Are you for real? If so, what are you going to have him do? Circle laterally to avoid an open angle? Jab to the head, and/or to the body? Be aggressive, or defensive? What punch is he looking to land should his opponent shoot?

Plain boxing going at MMA..

We were discussing this at the gym, and we all thought on one thing.. And if somehow he manages to be able to survive your take-downs,Kick him hard on the arms..

I hope your guy wins dude but I think it's silly to just box in MMA... i'd never do that in one of my fights.

I use Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo and BJJ to combat all areas. I think your boy will learn more if he loses because if he wins he will think he can stop a wrestler by out boxing him and that is simply not true.

Yeah man - I didn't think there were still people around who think that one discipline can get the job done in the cage.

The answer to this is simple - it all depends on the level of competition. He might win a couple fights against completely outmatched opponents, but once he gets in there with someone of comparable athleticism, he's in big trouble.

I repeat, I did not ask for this! and would not advise anyone to do MMA without knowing the ground game. He asked me to help him. I told him I dont know dick about MMA and can only help him with boxing. He said Lets Box.
I was pretty sure this was trolling but if footage is posted then I eat my words.

As a sports coach though I would be real careful with "just helping out a mate who wont help himself". The best of intentions frequently proves expensive.

I want to know what the strategy is besides "go in there and box and hope the guy doesn't shoot"

Eh- every time someone says something like this it shows you've never actually tried to deal with a grappler. For kicks why don't you go down to your local jiujitsu club or submission school and ask to spar with them and see how it goes. Tell us all about how you popped everyone so they couldn't take you down. 1993 is calling my friend. Boxing is great - but it's one aspect of a multi-faceted game.

The troll didn't even come back with a made-up report of the 'fight'.
