WBA #12 heavyweight is Jovo Pudar - who?
Looking through the WBA rankings today I noticed an unfamiliar name in the HW rankings - a Serbian named Jovo Pudar.
Turns out he is a 40 year old with a record of 27-3. He was based in the USA for nine years which is where he picked up most of his wins, but he has yet to beat anyone of note and his only fight against anyone relevant was a shutout 10 round loss to Samuel Peter in 2004.
After that fight he took six years out before a few easy wins over bums, and then beat journeyman Serdar Uysal by TKO4, but he was behind on the cards at the time. This is pretty disturbing considering Uysal is regularly brought in as cannon fodder for HW prospects and usually gets smashed to bits very quickly. This fight was for the PABA title and incredibly it earned Pudar a world ranking.
Pudar defends his title against Marcelo Luiz Nascimento on March 30. I saw Nascimento against Manuel Charr, a fight which he should have won if it were not for his poor stamina. Nascimento also fought Tyson Fury who beat him pretty easily.
Here is Pudar's most recent fight against a random Argentine:
To be fair Pudar does seem to have pretty fast hands for a 40 year old. He is also in very good shape weighing under 220 pounds despite being 6'4".
Does anyone know anything more about him? I'm just amazed that such an obscure, elderly fighter who's never done anything notable can have a world ranking. I expect Nascimento to beat him but again a guy who has been beaten by Fury and Charr should not have a world ranking either.
