Surgically altered fists

Not sure if this true but...., was there ever a heavy weight boxer in the 1980's who had his fists surgically altered into fists?

Gerrie Coetzee was often referred to as having a "bionic" right hand. He had some type of surgery on it but I'm not sure exactly what.

I don't know what to make of this question. What were they before they were fists? Apart from fists, of course.

Yes, I think It is Gerrie Coetzee is who you are thinking about. He had a bad hand that was operated on quite a lot and they just called it his "bionic" hand. Don't think it was actually any improvement on the original fist.

by the way ready 2 rumble had a charecter called wild stubby corley which is cearly based on coetzee

Coetzee is guy who you are thinking of. He had hand surgery, it dod not give him "bionic fist," although they sometimes said that when referring to him, it did make for good stories for writers,and publicity too. It also was used as excuse by some guys to duck him.
He had broken hand, they fused it differently was story. It did not make it a super hand though.
