UFC, Bellator & ONE FC

UFC, Bellator and ONE FC seem to be the shape of the MMA landscape for the foreseeable future - maybe five to ten years.

Bellator is making their own reality TV series called Fight Master with Randy Couture, Frank Shamrock and Greg Jackson as coaches training guys to fight through a tournament and to be honest with you, I'd watch it just to see the training.

ONE FC is putting on solid shows with the closest to Pride rules as we're going to get - inside a cage no less. That alone makes it cool.

So how does everyone feel about it?

One FC is pretty much wear it's at outside the UFC.
Loving their rule set, loving the fact they put all their shit on youtube for free, they have some good fighters putting on a great show.

The sport is booming, there are more fighters and fans in more places than ever before, and the UFC can't hold all the talent. The ground is ripe for more promotions to appear.

Personally, I'd like to see all the best fighters under one tent fighting each other on the regular. Then a couple of smaller promotions to host the up-and-comers and faded guys/keep the UFC on their toes, and then a bunch of regional/local promotions.

A feeder system, like the second division competitions in baseball etc. Where the top talent gets scouted and scooped up for the big show, and the smaller teams/orgs make it so that people in smaller cities/states/countries can enjoy decent-quality shows in their hometowns.

If they can keep producing quality show I can see them taking over in asia easily

The UFC and sport of MMA is growing too fast for Dana White. And with all this Rousey shit (whilst the Flyweight division still needs a lot of work to do) -- look for Bellator to someday pull the same kind of PRIDE takeover the UFC, itself, did. How soon? I do not know.

But Dana White has helped the UFC get this far -- and he's going to be the one to hold them back.

Plus, it's ridiculous how much more badass the name Bellator is compared to Ultimate Fighting Championship. (Sounds like a fucking 12 year old came up with that.)

"Bellator" literealy translates to wage war. I mean, c'mon! Sugar Ray Robinson described himself, not as a fighter, but as a gladiator. That's what these men are. And nothing epitomizes that more than Bellator.

Nev - the reason I didn't list Invicta is because I don't know how stable they are going to be over the years. They might disappear overnight whereas the others will be around for a while. There's no way ZUFFA is getting Bellator away from Viacom.

Truth be told - Dana has gone on record in the past when asked about Bellator saying that he likes them and thinks they are doing a good job with their own thing.

The competition is just going to make the entire sport better over the next few years.

Bellator is a cool name, but it is just a word, and the vast majority of people who see it won't know that it means "wage war".

Ultimate Fighting Championship? It's very simple and self-explanatory, and it follows a set pattern.

NFL - National Football League
NBA - National Basketball Association
EPL - English Premier League
UFC - Ultimate Fighting Championship
IPL - Indian Premier League
MLB - Major League Baseball
NHL - National Hockey League

All of them say exactly what they are in three words, with an easily-recognizable acronym.

"UFC" sits comfortably right in there, along with all the other major sports orgs. "Bellator"? Not so much.

Id prefer one or two main orgs to be honest, theres only so many you can follow. I like the idea of having UFC as king (kind of) & the rest as mere feeders, In the Americas that is. KSW (poland) could start making some moves.

I have watched a couple of the world series of fighting and while entertaining, it reminded me of King of the Cage. Either up and coming fighters or on the decline fighters. It seemed like a 2nd tier competition to me.

I really like the Bellator series, especially with the tournament style format that they have. No politics of who fights who, just a cut and dried tournament and that winner gets a title shot, rinse and repeat. I wish the UFC would do that Pride style Grand Prix idea for a division. It would give a lot of great match ups and fans would see more fights that they wanted to see instead of the same champion/contender match ups.

I will have to check out the One FC, I hadn't heard of it until now.
