Default Italian Heavyweights (1960's)

Maybe the best group to come out of Europe in the 60's.

Franco De Piccoli
Giulio Rinaldi
Santo Amonti
Giuseppe Migliari
Giacomo Bozzano
Franco Cavicchi
Benito Penna
Piero Tomasoni
Dante Cane
Guiseppe 'Bepi' Ros

Oh, boy. Here comes Klozoff. "Mama mia, they were suava azza ballza! Wickeda greata! Schiaffoni e karate!" [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

Dante Cane vs. Giuseppe 'Bepi' Ros

Dante Cane sul ring contro l'eterno rivale', Bepi Ros.

They fought each other '5 times, to massive sell-out crowds in Italy.

Ros went 15 rounds with Bugner in 1973, a bout which earned Bugner a lot of scorn. Bugner also stopped Barruzi and Dante Cane, but was severely criticized for the inefficient manner in which he won both fights. The bouts were one-sided but sloppy.

As for the 1960s Italian guys you name, I know a lot of them developed huge winning records, but were often whipped -- even KO'd -- whenever they fought half-decent American journeymen.

Are the Italian TV archives available online? I'd love to see these fights.

Giuseppe 'Bepi' Ros

Italy's version of George Chuvalo, with a boxer/puncher swarming/mauling style.

5' 11"
215 to 225 lbs.

42-16-2 (24 KO's)

In 60-bouts, supposedly was never floored.
Only stoppage, versus Mac Foster in 1971 in Zurich, Switzerland.
Had Foster rocking and rollling in round 3 and was winning the fight
until eating a Mac left hook in round 6.
Was eventually stopped in Round 8 while on his feet.
That bout was on the undercard of the Muhammad Ali vs. Jurgen Blin fight.

If 'Bepi' had won that fight over Mac Foster, he would have gotten a Title Shot versus Joe Frazier.

The winner of the 'Bepi' Ros vs. Mac Foster fight was to get a shot at Ali in 1972.
I thought Ros was only 5'9"...5'10" at most. That's what I recall reading. Where are you getting your info about his fights?

Also, where can I see these Italian archives TV fights you wrote about?
