Michael Bisping will face Ken Shamrock (26-12-2) — not Matt Hamill as previously reported — at UFC 75 on September 8 in London, England, according to Loretta Hunt at FightNetwork.com.
Shamrock — a UFC Hall of Fame inductee — retired after his third lopsided loss to Tito Ortiz in October 2006. Besides a technical knockout of a broken down Kimo Leopoldo in 2004, Shamrock hasn’t won a fight since 2001. During that time (2000-present), in fact, “The World’s Most Dangerous Man” has been horrendous (2-7). Shamrock was a coach on season three of The Ultimate Fighter, during which Bisping was a contestant and eventually the light heavyweight winner. There’s no explanation for Hamill no longer being the opponent, especially since Ticketmaster.com promoted the match up. I can only hope that this is a sick prank being played on Loretta over at FightNetwork.com. Then again, it really doesn’t surprise me. Let’s wait to hear the official word from the UFC, which is expected to come in the next few days, regarding this bout and the wisdom behind it. This should be interesting to say the least. I'm not sure why they would make this fight. It will embarrass an old hero of the sport and won't do any good for the "new star" they're trying to promote. They could surely find a younger showcase fighter for Bisping who has won more recently.
I don't see anywhere Shamrock can take this and have an advantage. This is just a bad, bad fight. I'd much rather see Bisping beat on Hamil or see him sweat through some ground and pound with him than see this fight. Seriously, if Hamil turns up fighting someone else, it'll be a real shame. |

Would have rather seen Hamill in there, although this is a more complex matchup as opposed to a pure wrestler you now have a guy in Shamrock who is still the better wrestler than Bisping but also the better striker and sub guy than Hamill.

If Tito loses to Rashad (I think he will), this gives them a GREAT marketing angle in that they could have the TUF winner fighting both of the TUF coaches. If Bisping beats Ken I think he will ready for a fight with someone of Tito's caliber. They have sheltered Mike for pretty long and they need to test him.
