Harder puncher: Ingo or Sonny

Which of these HW's hits harder in your opinion:

Ingo Johansson

Not arguin greatness or skill level here, just raw punching power. Maybe drifting into Punching technique if thast so desires those who give a damn.

I'm not overly sure which side of the fence I fall on here.

Two weeks ago I'd have said Liston without doubt, but the "Liston Shroud" is slowly falling away and I'm not sure how much I rate him any more.

Johansen might have had it in terms of one punch power.

No question that Liston was the better all round puncher though.

beyond patterson and machen i've seen no ingo so it's a bit tough for me to make a call. on paper, it's liston. on film, it's a much more difficult question

Maybe close w the right but Sonny could crush with either hand while Ingo ony had the right ...

Ingemar Johansson may have had the better one-punch power, with
the straight right hand.

It was sneaky-quick, and was loaded with granite. But the key point,
it was accurate as hell.

Sonny's right hand was more of a clubbing punch. It had
power, but it was not as accurate as Ingo's.

I know Ingo usually gets a bad rap, but his straight right looked quicker
than Sonny's.

Ingo hit harder with his right than Sonny did, but on average I'd say Liston hit harder with his uppercuts and left hooks and also his body shots than Ingo did

I love Floyd Patterson. There's a lot of fighters who are great in the ring, but aren't that great as men, and humans...

Patterson was a great man and a great fighter.

As for who hit harder, its already been said already- Liston hit harder with a bigger arsenal; with the right, we're splitting hairs.

I don't think its a good thing to take a clean right hand from either guy.

Ingo initially decked an attacking Machen with a single right before nearly killing him. His right produced single punch count outs on footage of more than one bout.

14 times, opponents of Sonny's were counted out in 39 stoppage wins. 11 of Ingo's 17 stoppage wins had "Ten!" counted over them. Based on Machen and Patterson's testimony, I lean towards the "clean" power of Ingo's right over the "dirtier" power Sonny had in either hand. Patterson was decked a lot, but only Liston and Johansson really had him on queer street. Looking at the footage, it does appear Ingo hurt Floyd more with singular shots in their first and third bouts. He definitely carried flashing, lighning "knockout drops" in his "toonder." Sonny was more clubbing, like Foreman.

Sonny Liston.

He was a cross between Foreman`s heavy hands and Joe Louis`s snap. Just a devastating puncher. The size of his hands alone were freakish. Legend has it he used to knock the stuffing out of the headgear his sparring partner`s used.

When it comes to power Im hardpressed to rate anyone over Sonny Liston.

There was a fighter named Scrap Iron Johnson who has the privilage of fighter Sonny Liston, George Foreman and Joe Frazier. He lost to all three. I believe Sonny was the only one to stop him. I remember reading an article many years ago in which Scrap Iron said that Liston hit him harder than either Joe or George.
