Default How many rounds did Folley get vs Ali

I watched it on ESPN Classics the other day and was pretty impressed by some sharp right hands Folley landed on Ali

Ali also seemed to be passive offensively til the first knockdown

So how many rounds do you guys think he won?

I have not seen that fight in years.

But Zora clearly won the first 2 rounds, easy.

Round 3, Zora won the first half of the round without a doubt.

Ali came on strong in the second half of the round. It could have been scored an
Even round.

Thats all she wrote for Zora.

Still, that's impressive. Ali was a fast starter for his style of boxing. Doug Jones took the opening round cleanly out the gate, but I'm hard pressed to recall anybody else doing that with him through the rest of the 1960s. As soon as Muhammad scored that first knockdown though, the tide completely turned.

Folley boxed as smartly as he could have, but was simply way overmatched. A very credible performance to start though, especially considering who he was dealing with.

It's been five years since I scored it, but I think I had it 3 rounds each. The score is not very representative though, it looked like Ali was holding back a lot and could strike any moment. And then he did.

I haven't seen it in years but I remember clearly being impressed with Folley's snappy counters. Ali wasn't liking them and even seemed a bit wary of them. Zora put up a good fight for as long as it lasted. Especially considering how far past his peak he was and that Ali was completely in his.

Prime Folley vs prime Ali is a good, close fight, imho.

This accurately portrays my thoughts too.

Zora Folley, clearly a 'Gentleman of Boxing'

One of the nice guys.

Too bad his one shot at the title came when he was nearly 36.

Still fought a classy fight for '7' rounds, against a 'perfect fighting machine'
that night.

'60s Ali sure was lean!

Look at those ribs & shoulder-blades, jutting right out.

Ali was fighting most anybody.....to get in "fights" before he had to report for military service.

Too bad the mid-60's didn't have some real challengers to test him.

Ali described the problems he had with Folley very eloquently post-fight. Folley refused to come at all and so Ali had to fight Folley's fight. He took his time, he dropped the boom.

I gave Folley two rounds.

Pretty much this.

Folley had some success, but part of it was due to Ali being very cautious and looking for the right openings. Whenever Ali decided to attack, he was clearly superior.

A credible performance by Zora, very much so, but not one that can be used to knock the champion, imo.

I gave Folley the first two rounds.

.
Or maybe Ali was cautious due to the fact that Folley was having that success That was my take on it when I watched it. He didn't like those counter rights and was looking for a way to stop getting nailed by them and at the same time get his own attack going. Folley clearly wasn't playing ball the way Ali wanted him to. Perhaps he was having Doug Jones flashbacks and didn't want a repeat of that disaster.

That bout went pretty much the way the 'so-called boxing experts' thought it would.

Zora attacking early, trying to get in one good right hand that would shake the
Champion.

Pressing early, and trying to get into a rhythm, and disrupt Ali's movement.

It worked for 2 1/2 rounds.

On the other side, Ali would look to land the quick right hand over the top. As Zora
was vulnerable to those shots.

Bing, Bang and Boom !!!!!!

None , but he was given a couple, by a champion in a charitable mood.
