You are right. Mea culpa. Shavers should be on the list from the time of Foreman's initial retirement into the early 1980's when he would be replaced by Cooney.

Cooney is shaky for me. Any thoughts about someone else?

Tua is a strong candidate in place of Lewis. The problem for me is that Tua did not knock out the best he faced, Lewis and Byrd, and also Ibeabuchi. I'm not certain, but am willing to listen to arguments.

And who is the best choice for the period in which Tyson was in jail?

*I have edited in Shavers at everyone's suggestion. It was a blunder not to have put him in initially.

Imo Shavers should be on there from the early 70s up until he became inactive in the 80s. I think enough common oponents have shared the same opinion that Shavers was the harder puncher between the two.

When you assumed that the hardest puncher in the world would be a great fighter.

It verry rarely is!

I am leaving Foreman in before his retirement because the ko of Frazier in 1973 was bigger than anything Shavers ever did. Also, Foreman did stop Lyle and Shavers did not and Foreman has the better ko percentage.

Tua could easily be a harder puncher than Lewis while being unable to knock out superior opponents.

In addition to Tua and Shavers, Bonecrusher Smith may have been the hardest puncher for a while in the mid-80's.

Lyle also said that Shavers hit harder, as did Norton and Ali.

Foreman's better KO percentage and better wins is a result of him being the much better fighter, not the harder puncher.

For pure power it is very possible. Tyson was a much, much better puncher, but if we're talking strictly power, I don't think it would be unreasonable to say Bonecrusher is superior to Tyson.

I don't think Bonecrusher was the hardest hitting...and I was a fan of his.

I don't think so either, but I definitely wouldn't rule him out.

Archie Moore said Curtis Sheppard hit him harder than anybody

So did Jersey Joe who ranked the hardest punchers in order of Sheppard, Elmer Ray then Marciano

4got who it was but somebody said Bob Satterfield hit harder than Marciano?

In any case i would have Sheppard as the hardest puncher following after Louis' first retirment

Also some boxers put the likes of Cooper, Douglas, Weaver, Sanders, Boneclutcher Smith and Morrison as being harder punchers than Tyson and Lewis

Sanders was a deadly puncher because of :
1) his surreal speed
2) d surreal duration of his powerpunches flurries
3) his size which enabled him 2 actually reach ppl , which was d limitation of much harder punchers like Tua and possibly Bert Cooper

but as 4 d hardness of his punches as in single punches , i think he was not above average or at least not much above it 4 his size .
