So i thought i'd just start off a topic on the sport i love so much... Muay Thai!
[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muay_Thai[/ame] I know quite a few of you guys do some form of art (Western Boxing too) but i thought it was about time we had one just for the Thai arts (Muay Boran, Thai Boxing, Krabi Krabong, Muay Kaad Chuek, Muay Thai) Do any of you train or fight? If so let us know what you do and who you have trained with. Are there any specials moves you know that are not straight from a book? I'd love to hear about them... Lynchburg |

Yeah I've trained and had a few interclubs. I was planning to fight but there's no gyms around my uni. Trained with a gym in London but there are no special techniques that I know off.
What we done is in my training log [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E_JZvH5NhMw[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrZJOrGiSA0&feature=related[/ame] [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PtizwjIrCp0&feature=related[/ame] Last edited by oatman12345; 02-11-2011 at 09:25 AM. |

The base where I'm at has a great gym and my 1st Sgt trains the Muay Thai and BJJ. Guy spent 11 years in Thailand and is also a black belt in BJJ. He's 51 I believe, been a Marine for 26 years and still looks 30. Doesn't smoke or drink. Its a brutal training regiment and is as violent as they come. My favorite martial art by far.

Hey Lynchburg, good idea and great to see the interest
, but we do kind of already have any epic Muay Thai thread set up by Vic-JofreBRASIL and kept alive regularly a group of dedicated posters. It’s a great resource for all things MT originally set up to talk about Muay Thai ATGs but has become a treasure trove of classic clips, photos, techniques, experiences and knowledge you name it it’s there, I’d recommend any one with an interest in MT to check it out:[Only registered and activated users can see links. ] [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]Anyway, I’m a Muay Thai purist who’s had a lifelong love affair with MT. Started in 88-89 and retired in the early 2000s in Bangkok, just before everything exploded, MMA, K1 etc etc. Fought in both Thailand and the west and have spent 10 years straight in Thailand (not all as a fighter) and am now based between BKK and London. I was lucky to experience the tail end of Muay Thai’s golden era of the 90s in Thailand and had the honour to meet and train with many brave guys over the years some well known some not so well known. I’m 37 so still keep myself fit and still train MT occasionally with a mind to opening my own modest gym in Southern Thailand in the not too distant future. I love the sport with a passion and love talking about it so it’s great that a few threads have started. I’m very familiar with the sport from the Thai perspective so am happy to give opinions or try to answer questions if any one has any about Thai Muay Thai. I’m not that up on the whole western side of things since 2001, but thanks to the help of a few knowledgeable guys on forum I’m busy visiting the last decade via some great tapes to see the main western developments, match ups and fighters. Hope to speak with you guys on either this thread or the other one. |

No worries. I'd love to come over and train sometime... The thing is I will but my lady won't... I can take a punch like there is no tomorrow but having a smashed up face is not always so god in this world. I read Tony is making Warrior King II... ![]() Lynchburg |

I know what you mean about facial brusies, cuts etc in your normal life, it can become pretty awkward in certain social and professional situations. Yeah, I think that's been on the cards for a while Warrior King II (Tom Yam Goong II in Thailand), I didn't know they had started. Got to admit it wasn't one of my favs, Ong Bak is stil the one for me. |
