Default Yoan Pablo Hernandez vs Firat Arslan 16/08/14

Just confirmed by Sauerland Promotions.
On 16 August Hernandez will defend his IBF title against Firat Arslan.

Arslan is a likeable fighter who gives a lot of heart in the ring, but he got destroyed by Huck at the beginning of this year. I'm surprised to see he gets another shot.
I'm afraid it will be another easy fight for Hernandez.

Another easy fight? I thought Alekseev pushed him hard and gave him a battering at times in his last fight and I thought Troy Ross beat him in the one before that. Hernandez might not fight often but when he does I don't think he has an easy time. However, I think he will have it easier with Arslan than he had it with those other two.

Sauerland are terrible with these cherrypicked mismatches

YPH looked absolutely shot to pieces in his fight against Alexeev. Maybe he overtrained or something.

Edit.: Alexeev looked shot to **** too in that fight btw.

Another high profile prime opponent for a YPH title defense.

I saw Pablo vs Cunningham II in Frankfurt live, if he will be in the same shape he will send Arslan to sleep forever..

But I think Arslan is a good tune up after his longer break, nothing more at the moment..

Why the hell are people ****ting on Arslan like he is nothing all of a sudden?

I missed Huck vs. Arslan II, did he look that bad? Totally shot?

Huck vs. Arslan I was competitive, so if he is operating at even 80% of that he is by no means a 'mismatched cherry pick' for the hardly flawless Hernandez.

there are MUCH better fights out there for Hernandez out there

Afolabi, Drozd or Chakhiev, just to name the best out of the current IBF top 15

the only good reason I see this fight happening is for Arslan to get a final payday and title shot, and Hernandez taking an older battered opponent coming off a 9 month layoff due to injury

No, I was at Huck-Arslan II and Arslan wasn't that bad. He's a tough tough man, and I suppose he has to be because he doesn't move his head nearly enough and struggles to move backwards unless a punch hits him square on the nose. I thought he clearly beat Huck in the first fight though.

Having said that, he's still in good shape and will put pressure on YPH which he may find uncomfortable. I like YPH but sometimes I get the feeling that he doesn't really fancy a fight until he's losing. I can see him under-estimating Arslan and coming unstuck because of it.

Well yeah there are guys closer to prime or deservedly higher rated than Arslan, but he is hardly a bum is he? Last time I saw him in the ring he gave a damn hard argument in a world title challenge. It just seems weird that he was a perfectly acceptable contender then for Huck, but not here for Hernandez.

Or, as I asked, did he really age that much in just over a year?

he didn't seem to age that badly, but it's not like he really earned this shot, but Firat is still better than some of the South American challengers that Sauerland fighters have recently faced

Afolabi fights Kolodzej in an IBF-eliminator one month from now, which he should win.

Hernandez - Arslan i find perfectly acceptable. Arslan is tough, and Hernandez has been injured for a long time again.

actually, Kolo-Afolabi will not happen, because Kolo for some reason didn't want to sign the contract and is now conflicted with his promoter

Glass jawed YPH is ducking the big punchers at CW.... As soon as he steps in with one of the big punchers like Lebedev, Huck, Usyk, or Kudryashov he's getting his brittle Cuban mandible shattered.
