Good fights build the economy of the sport, bring in more money for boxing as a whole. Marketable fighters make a lot of money for themselves/their promoters whilst damaging the credibility of the sport.

If boxing grows as a sport it means that more money comes in at small hall/local level, and so fighters can make a better living at the lower levels. I couldn't care less if Mayweather makes $25million or $50million, but the difference between £1k and £2k for a local boxer on smaller shows is massive.
