[quote=casian72;12732752]Look at the video carefully. When the punch lands Oscar's body is lifted into the air, both feet leave the floor at the same time. As soon as his feet the floor again he collapses. Typical reaction for a well placed body punch from a bigger fighter. Although the punching the floor was all theatrics. Remember he was a boxer/"singer"/"actor"/promoter.[/quote

He took a dive.Bernard was starting to land more and De La Hoya looked for a way out.Ive seen ALOT of bodyshots and never seen ANYONE react like that. When you get hit with one you do not beat on the canvas with your fists-show me ONE other fight where someone gets hit with a wicked bodyshot and then beats on the ring apron or else stfu.

Some of the topics that get seriously debated on ESB...
![]() "Did the phantom punch even actually land? " (y'know, aside from when it clearly did as shown by multiple angles and speeds on film)"That body shot DLH received from Hopkins didn't really hurt that bad, right? " (y'know, the one that made him writhe convulsively and sob like a stricken housewife and poo himself)"Torrecampo knocked out Pacquiao with a blatant low blow nut shot, didn't he? " (y'know, aside from being a flush punch straight to the literal chin)"Likar Ramos must have been acting; nobody falls down like that! Do they? " (y'know, especially seeing as Marquez totally pulled that little feather duster slap that he caught him squarely with...)

They wanted to endear him to the male demographic (majority among boxing fans), who resented him for his pretty boy image and the adoration of all their girlfriends.
It made him seem more "one of the fellas". We all shit ourselves at the office sometimes, right? ![]() Big publicity stunt. |

He didn't take a dive. I heard he was crying in the locker-room as well because he was a Man that was to proud to be knocked out. Oscar's chin was Iron and always confident in taking a punch so if he was KO'd that way, it would have been interesting to see how he would react. Being knocked out by a body-shot surely surprised him.
That said, look at Bernard Hopkins, a full fledged MW, jump for joy like he won the lottery by beating a former LW, WW at his best...Oscar De La Hoya. Seriously, calm yourself and act like you were there before. Act like you were supposed to win. |

That isn't even the first time he vanquished a fellow surefire Hall of Famer. (albeit an itty-bitty one next to him)Was his celebration that extravagant after Tito? |

Hitting him to the body was perfect. Oscar can take a big shot to the head even from bigger guys but to the body, he still has that WW body. |

After the fight, Then all of a sudden Hopkins is ODH business partner and the new face of GB who they clearly were trying to showcase at that time. Oscar was simply insuring that his company succeeds and he pass the baton to him, to simply line up his pockets in case of a future RJJ rematch. People have to remember this wasn't Oscar the fighter at that point but Oscar the promoter
