I gave Berbick B- . Maybe I am rating in retrospect. Spinks I gave an A to. A the time he was the best. Beat Holmes 2 times, Cooney and that Tangstad guy. No one expected Mike to blow him out in one. Biggs was a shame. They rushed him into fight Mike.

Are you serious? giving him that high of a grade? I'm not trying to insult you but come on dude.

1- He was high on cocaine that night. I'll link you sources. He was coming off back to back arrests on possession.

2- THE GUY was ****ing knocked the **** out by Bernardo Mercado
ST the cruiserweight Gordon and Snipes for Christs Sake.

WTF man he had 5 losses LEADING INTO THE TYSON FIGHT and you give him a B+??
Seriously a B+? This guy was a borderline gatekeeper

vs Bonecrusher Smith 1987: Grade: D-
Bonecrusher Smith was a ****ing Gatekeeper too.

vs Larry Holmes 1988: Grade: F

You can't say Larry got better afterwards hence trying to make Mike Tyson look good.

Do you know the story of larry vs tyson?

Holmes was paid millions by Don King to get out of retirement asap and fight Mike because they wanted Holmes name on Mike's list. He was suppose to retire immediatly afterwards but he got sucked back into boxing and did very well when he was fully motivated and trained. The version of Holmes that fought Mike had zero training and basically just stepped out of his house for a pay day

vs Tony Tubbs 1988:I can not believe you gave this guy a ****ing B+

C+
at best

vs Michael Spinks 1988: Grade: c+
this guy was a LHW for god's sake.

vs Frank Bruno 1989: Grade: B
Ya Bruno is legit
the version of Bruno isn't as good as the Bruno that fought Lewis though

vs Carl Williams 1989: Grade: D
he was shot
He was knocked out by hercules
after Holmes

Tyson fought a bunch of god damn bums dude. This is why He is overrated.

Americans gave him all the props in the world for fighting bums because he can ko them in a great fashion

Im not denying his skills but it is what it is

The best fighter he ever fought was Holyfield
Holyfield was the only A fighter he ever fought that was still an A fighter when the match happened

the 2nd best was a semi shot Lewis in 2002

I gave that semi shot past prime Lewis of 2002
a B-
grade
Scratch this guy's post, even his existence. My GOD. Foreman Hook has a playmate if he wants one.

I always look forward to your wording as you do give good insight despite the knocks/humor.

Overall, I think the 80's had some talent with some serious issues and there were major problem with keeping things together.

These three athletes: what did they all have in common?

Extremely overrated, one of the worst titlists ever. High off his ass.

vs Bonecrusher Smith 1987: Grade: C+
Good puncher with some skill, but out of his class.

vs Pinklon Thomas 1987: Grade: B
Very good fighter who was past his prime.

vs Tony Tucker 1987: Grade: B+
Very good fighter who was more or less in the middle of his prime.

vs Tyrell Biggs 1987: Grade: B-
Very good fighter who had yet to hit his prime.

vs Larry Holmes 1988: Grade: C
Great fighter, fought under horrible conditions, and was past it. The most overrated of Tyson's wins.

vs Tony Tubbs 1988: Grade: B

Very good fighter, solid win.

vs Michael Spinks 1988: Grade: A-
Though Spinks was a light heavyweight and inactive, he was still at the top of the division, a fine fighter, and to blow him out in a round is highly impressive to me.

vs Frank Bruno 1989: Grade: B
Good fighter.

vs Carl Williams 1989: Grade: C+
Was once a good, promising fighter. By this point, was a never-was with a ton of lost potential. Hadn't achieved anything or demonstrated any recent form to make this a B-defence.

That puts his average at a B-, which sounds about right to me. Not a great era, but he fought just about everybody good in it. Missed a few, like Holyfield, but on the whole, its a complete resume, if not a great one.

You gave Holmes the lowest grade Magna. That's shocking.

As for Suzie, why no Buster Douglas grade?

He was in horrible form, dragged out of retirement to be fed to a young lion he was not ready for.

A 38 year old exgreat dragged out of retirement by the smell of cash, rusty as hell, out of shape, and unmotivated.

Great performance by Tyson, but I feel a majority of the other guys on the list beat the Larry Holmes of that night. I much prefer his cowing of Tucker and his blowout of Spinks.

Fair enough, this seems like a harsh assessment. How much better was Holmes versus Holyfield and Mercer? I tend to think this was quite possibly Tyson's best performance so that might be our difference of thought on this one.

Pete just look at Old Holmes against Holy, he was clearly in much better shape!
