I am hoping to travel to a big fight in Vegas over the next 12-18 months (Manny V Mayweather maybe if it ever gets made!). I was planning to sort it all out myself (flights, tickets, accomadation etc) rather than going through an organised sports travel company.
My concern would be that I'd lay out all of the money and that the fight would then be cancelled or postponed if for example one of the fighters got injured. Could anyone who has sorted out a trip like this before themselves let me know if any there is any standard or specialist travel insurance that would cover me in the event that the fight is cancelled or postponed. I was booked to go to chisora - klitschko in Mannhiem, Germany the first time it was cancelled and lost out on flight and hotel money (got refunded ticket money) but I could cope with this as it wasn't big money - however, I obviously wouldn't want to lash out a grand plus on a decent ticket, flights and accomadation only for the fight to be cancelled and lose the lot! Any advice from someone who has done this themselves appreciated! ![]() I have tried googling this to come up with some helpful info but with no luck. cheers folks. |

I think it's down to luck but not sure. If you get the option of paying a tiny bit more and you cancel and get a full refund then go for that option instead of going for the cheaper option and can't get a refund once the booking is made

Many US hotels will let you cancel within a certain period without losing your money. Flights are a different kettle of fish, of course...

Travel insurance won't cover a canceled fight. With a big card in Vegas, even if the main event gets pulled there will still be a show so you should just go anyway.

I was all booked and ready to go to New York in December and was shitting it when i heard Margarito might not get licensed to fight. I was emailed saying i would get my trip refunded as i had booked a package through a company. If you book all your flights and hotel separately you've no chance of getting your money back its not their fault the fight got cancelled and how do they even know you're going watching boxing in the first place? Needless to say i went in the end and had a great time!

thank all. looks like I'll have to take the risk or else go through a organised travel company then (i'm not against doing this but I'm travelling from Northern Ireland and all of these organised trips tend to go from England so it means an extra set of return flights to England plus spending money and possibly one or two nights extra accomadation) which could end up being another 500 quid. If I did it myslef I would go direct form Dublin or Belfast to cut al lof this out.
Will have to decide whether to take a calculated risk or not! |

Even if you do it independently you can still get a refund with some insurance companies.
I think you just have to wait until the official press conferences are done / tickets go on sale. Not sure what specific companies do it but there's a few. |

Ta mate, yeah suppose it's worth asking individual insurance companies if I would be covered by normal travel insurance or, if not, whether they could arrange tailor made protection that would cover me. Would be worth it for the comfort of mind.

Fell sorry for anyone getting stung here. I got stung on the first Klit v Haye fight that was cancelled. Not quite as expensive as Vegas Im sure but it still hurt. Flights, Hotel tickets all lost. Funny cause when I was getting tickets for Haye v Chisora the same thing crossed my mind that this may not go ahead at all hope Im wrong.
