I don't know Canelo that well but Vargas lost on his way down to Shane twice and Shane was still at a good level and when he should have fought Floyd. Any Vargas fight before the Tito and the ODLH fight but bincluding those is a thriller and I would mention his fight with Ike Quartey. Brutal stuff like against Tito. So I have to go with the Aztec Warrior.

I'd have to go with Vargas, Canelo is a very good considering his age but Vargas developed really well early in his career. It was a shame Vargas was never able to fulfill his early potential, it'll be interesting to see how Canelo can develop his skills as he ages.

Vargas boxing skills were superior, and imo was all around better than Canelo is every department.
I can't really think of one thing Canelo does better than Vargas at that age. |

I wouldn't doubt it. Vargas was an awesome boxer puncher, and he could punch and use his feet well. The only reason why Vargas' career went south was because of his chronic back problems and his two fights against Tito and DLH... But his back problems were a huge problem. |
