Default Andreas Kotelnik Retires

Had a good career, was unlucky in a few fights (decisions)

Happy retirement

He also got fairly fortunate to win a decision v Maidana too, so balanced out overall.

Solid fighter is the best way to describe him, not easy to bust up or look good against. Makes few mistakes, good straight puncher. Lacked vicious power and the same thing as a lot of Eastern Euros, a lack of creativity/athleticism stifled him at the top level.

Good fighter, not the most exciting but very efficient and underrated. Hope he enjoys his retirement.

I do think he could win the Maidana fight fairly, as much as Maidana could.

He retired on a dominant win over a highly ranked fighter. It's easy to forget how overhyped Alexander was at the time and Kotelnik schooled him.

Aye, he did. Kotelink is just another of the guys that would have fought more often with a different promotional outfit behind him - or if King still yielded the sort of influence he once did.

he actually retired due to injuries, nothing to do with don king, but obviously gettin robbed a bunch of times had its effect.

Who said he retired due to Don King though? A couple of us commented on it being a waste that he wasn't more active, and other folk around Kotelnik had criticised King for that.

I think it was a 3 fight deal he signed with King. His name was in the mix for Ortiz before he fought Peterson but Don wanted silly money. He could have found guys for him on the undercard of Clouds cards but he just let him sit on the shelf instead. Shame considering how he deserved to make some money after battering DA.

Don's demands have cost a few of his fighters in recent years. Won't be shocked if Cloud follows Alexander and Bundrage in leaving him when his deal is up.

As a matter of interest did Lederman ever explain his appalling score card in the Kotelnik/Alexander fight? Probably didn't feel the need to the daft old bastard!
