Interesting you picked a Brazilian, as I always thought as Brazil spoke Portuguese rather than Spanish, that you would not consider yourself and your Countrymen 'Latino'. I guess that is not the case, and 'Latino' is defined as a geographical rather than cultural phenomenon.

All the nations from Mexico south to Chile are "Latin"..including Puerto Rico, Cuba, Dominican republic and any other Carib island nation i may be leaving out. There's no controversy at all for me. Brazil is that huge nation in the midst of Latin America, making them Latin. Portuguese is so akin to Spanish that it makes no difference.

Thank God the thread specified the 60's. if all time latins were to be considered, you'd have to have a top 50 list. there would be no way of squeezing in 20 all time Latin greats in 20 slots. If you did, the "honorable mention" names would exceed in quality all the top 20 lists of other groups.

A lot of the Caribbean Countries are formerly part of the British Empire as is Belize, so you too would consider them 'Latino'?

Didn't see that. Guess I have to take Mexican Pete Everett off my list.

On the bright side, that makes room for John Ruiz!

I never had any controversy about it, really....when we are kids teacher schools tell us that we are part of Latino America and every brazilian that went to a school if asked will say that he/she is a latino person in that sense...

Yes Red......It is named Latin(o) America because includes Brazil, and like you said Spanish and Portuguese languages are like twin brothers....if it were not so this wouldnīt even be the name, would be called Hispanic America I guess or something like that.....

Honestly, I don't know about Belize, but any Hispanic island in the Caribbean should be considered Latino.

Yes, Hispanic, but Belize and much of 'West Indies' are formerly of the British Empire, and have a rich boxing history, that would impact anyone's list. For starters, there was this Jamaican, who took people's bodies away...

I just asked because I think of the relationship of say England/Scotland or England/France, which generally in the modern era, is a hate/hate relationship, all be it thankfully now a days in a friendlier (non-war) way.

I just guessed Spain/Portugal, and in your neck of the woods Brazil and Argentina would have a rivalry, that means you want to disconnect yourself with your neighbour, like Scotland's relationship in the UK, or England's in Europe.

Many an Englishman would be offended by you calling them European, thus I thought (wrongly) a Brazilian might take the same offence over the 'Latino' comment.

Interesting. Got it
You mentioned the rivalry between Brazil and Argentina....and something I notice is that non-brazilians and non-argies think that this rivalry is bigger than it is in reality......itīs much more only "a sports thing" than anything else, we love to joke about them though .
