Leon Spinks- Not very good but at least he had decent technical skills, fast hands, and was much taller than Tommy. Spinks on points.
Johansson- Knocks out Burns early with a right hand Carnera- Too tall/big for Burns Willard- Too tall/big for Burns Braddock- Much taller, good jab, decent puncher, burns will be unable to hurt braddock. Braddock on points. Briggs- Too big/powerful Rahman- Too big/powerful Buster Douglas- Too tall/big/skilled. Burns would be murdered by that jab. |

Michael Spinks, if you accept him as a HW Champion. He was a slow starter, not a terrific infighter, and there's no question who has superior stamina here, with Tommy's dossier of 20 round performances. (He's not exactly acting fatigued when Jeff declares his first 20 rounder with O'Brien a draw.) Burns displays fine foot speed and mobility in his starching of Squires, and I don't think Michael has the power to take him out (in fact, nobody ever counted ten over Tommy). Whether or not he would defeat Michael can be debated, but I do believe Tommy could be capable of it.

Burns was a good fighter, he is look down apound today for his size and loseing to Johnson in the manner he was beating imo.
But he had a iron chin, and could hit, in theory, he is a danger for any one that has chin issues. So dont be shock if Burns lands a whopper on Louis or Dempsey and drops em. I think he beats L Spinks, M Spinks might be a maybe. Perhaps Jack Sharkey or Braddock, but that would be about it imo. Perhaps Rahman now that I think of it. |
