i often wonder why benitez's accomplishment at such a young age is not spoken more highly of. it's one the more underrated accomplishments in boxing. but with that said i still probaly lean slightly towards tyson. just for the simple fact in how he destroyed berbick in two rounds.

Benitez at 17 for me.
Beating one of the greatest junior welters ever in Cervantes who was coming of 12 successful title defenses at 17 is mind blowing. Tyson is impressive but Benitez is phenomenal i doubt that record will ever be beaten. |

Let's be clear here, some guys can't even turn pro at 17.
Benitez' feat will never even be repeated. |

Benitez younger and better comp all the way around. No question. Benitez is head and shoulders above Tyson in every aspect of skills. Tyson= most overrated athelete in the history of all sports!

Benitez is more impressive, but Tyson was the world heavyweight champion of the world and being an American, this comes with alot more glamour and fame

For all the money and acalades Tyson got ,who did he beat? The dude was way overrated! Aside from Spinks who was a blown up LHW and an old Holmes, who else can you say was his equal? He lost to a journey man in Douglas ,in his prime. Name one other ATG that lost to a guy like Douglas in their prime. Perhaps there are some but at this moment I can't think of one. Also let me remind you ,that my boxing knowledge isn't as deep as many of you on his sight. So if I am wrong please correct me. I not only come on this sight to talk about boxing , i come here to learn as well.

Maybe overrated, but he was able to captivate an audience like no other. The fear he could put into his opponent, no other could do like that, and that in itself is testament to the fighter that he was. He dosnt have the best resume, but saying he was the most overrated athlete shows naivety, maybe its your age, and the fact that you wernt able to fully appreciate him. There will never be another heavyweight like Tyson |

Benitez and its not even close. Not only was he 2-3 years younger but he was in a much harder weight class and relied on his boxing skills over brute power and intimidation.
Not that Tyson's win feat wasn't impressive, it just isn't near as impressive as Benitez'. |
