Larry Holmes certainly had fast hands. He was very economical with them. He would shoot crisp one-twos and slide over and repeat. Just a smart fighter. Huge Heart.
Holyfield is celebrated for his heart but Holme had just as much. |

Larry had very fast hands for someone his size. But Michael Dokes and Greg Page could be said to be faster, especially Dokes, who did have that ,oh wow, factor.

His hands were extremely fast, period ... right up there with Ali and Patterson .. I remember multiple title defenses on HBO where Ray Leonard as commentator raved over Larry's hand speed ... he was a gifted fighter ...

His handspeed while he was shot still could raise a lot of eyebrows. Weaver II for instance.

Did the initial poster ever hear of Ali, Tyson, Dokes, Louis, and Patterson? Greg Page? They were all faster than Holmes. So Patterson and Tyson weren't "big"? "Big" deal.
Holmes was great, but I am surprised anyone would start a thread with him as their prime example of having the fastest hands for a big man. Ali will always be the quintessential example of fast hands for a big man. |
