Default Best Past Prime performance

Name some fights where a known past it fighter pulled off a great performance on a prime fighter that people may have thought would have been done. Max Schmeling against at least a near peak Joe Louis their first fight is one I pick considering at the time Max was considered past his peak and a underdog against the younger Louis who had been going through opponents and some even thinking he was invincible. Schmeling studied Louis entirely noticing the fact that he would drop his left hand low making him suspect to right hands. Max did well wearing him down to eventually take him out in the 12th. That's just one example of how experience can help give a past it fighter still be on top. You can also add losing efforts as well where the past it fighter didn't get the W but did a lot better than was expected at that point in their career making it a close fight and have a argument of even winning the fight. Well I've talked enough so I'll let you here on ESB do the rest.

Great mentions. Hopkins Pavlik. Masterful, stunning, peformance
By Hopkins. Bernard literally won every round, kind of ruined Pavlik
imo. Not a "great performance" and Tyson was favored against Botha
but Botha won every round with his hit and smother tactics. Then a
2000 version of Tyson showed what he could do with one punch.
Morales Pacquiao 1, yes one of my favorit fights Morales definitive
Win over Pacman, masterful performance. Bowe Golota 2. Bowe
was past prime and in one of the ugliest fights showed tremendous
heart. Foreman Moorer has to be #1. Foreman got beat for 91/2
rounds then a one two combo and Moorer stops punching.
Another one two, and Moorer was out. My personal favorite
after Foreman is Hopkins Pavlik though especially when Hopkins
started throwing the bolo punches unreal. Also I dont think anyone
mentioned Hopkins vs Tarver, Tarver was heavily favored and he
got outclassed.

Saldivar vs Famechon
Jofre vs Legra
Harada vs Famechon(though past prime only because he was a japanese Hatton eating himself through the divisions)
Kalambay vs Collins

Starling wasn't past prime against Nunn imo.He moved up during the best run of his career while still razor sharp.he was just above his best weight.

J.C. Chavez over Ivan Robinson back on PPV in 2005..... No, not a high profile fight, but Chavez at age 42 seemed in great shape for that fight.....

A 42 year old Larry Homes beating a prime and undefeated Ray Mercer makes my list.

Nice call. Wasen't Holmes a 4 to 1 underdog? I remember watching that and being surprised with Mercer's early success, I believed before he was totally schooled. As the fight went on he was more and more though.

There are many but Duran vs Barkley was the one that immediatly sprung to mind. An underrated one in this context is Ali vs Berbick. Ali was beyond shot, a corpse, and he still gave a strong contender a go.
