Default Bobby Chachon

Of course he has a reputation as being in great wars. What where the best fights he was in? How good were the Olivares fights?

Thanks

He was almost never in a bad fight.

But the two two fights that stand out are his second fight with Bozza Edwards and his fourth fight with Limon.

Those are probably in my top 10 maybe even top 5 fights of all time.

The two Boza-Edwards fights are amazing too, particularly the second.

Chacon is also famous for stopping Danny Lopez early on in their careers..a sort of "coming of age" for Chacon, but I don't hold that against Lopez too much. I think that at Lopez's best, he would have accounted for himself much better and would have stopped Chacon.

I love watching Danny Lopez, I think I'm going to buy his career set soon.

Chacon's fight with Lopez at 126 rivals Boza-Chacon I&II and Limon IV IMO.

Danny Lopez was my favorite fighter when I was a kid. After he beat Tury Pineda I thought he was invincible. Then he lost to Chacon. I hated Bobby for many years over that.

One of my favorite alltime fighters..nothing against Juan Malvarez, but Danny's sudden ko of the Argentine is one of the most aesthetically satisfying fights I've ever seen..right up there with Barrera-Hamed.

Chacon`s fights against Limon (4th fight) & Boza-Edwards (2nd fight) were among the best fights in boxing history... absolute must see wars.

Still Love

Friday Night, May 24, 1974

Los Angeles Sports Arena

Attendance; 16,080 (Sell-Out)

Both fighters received $40,000 fight purses for this 10-Round Bout.

A 'very good' pay-day for a 1974 10-Round Featherweight non-Championship fight.

"The (#3 WBC) Bobby 'Schoolboy' Chacon 23-1-0 (21 KO's) vs. (#2 WBC) Danny 'Little Red' Lopez 23-0-0 (22 KO's)

Bombs were thrown all over the place.

It was a WBC Featherweight Championship Elimination bout.

The winner (Bobby Chacon by KO 9) got Alfredo Marcano in September 1974.

I have it on good authority that Chacon gave Rafael Herrera a good hiding in the gym circa 1971 when he was still an amateur and not long before Herrera beat Olivares.

Saturday - June 23, 1973

The Forum, Inglewood, California

For the 'vacant' NABF Featherweight Championship

The 'two' most popular California-fighters at the time.

Promoter, Don Fraser puts together a 'wonderful bout, when he signs these 'two warriors' to
a 12-Round bout, for the 'vacant' NABF Championship.

Both fighters are guranteed, $40,000 for this June 1973 bout.

#1 NABF - 'Rock-A-Bye' Ruben Olivares 70-3-1 (63 KO's) - (Age 26 1/2 - Height 5' 5 1/2" - Reach 67")
vs.
#2 NABF - Bobby 'Schoolboy' Chacon 19-0-0 (17 KO's) - (Age 21 - Height 5' 5 1/2" - Reach 67")

26 year-old, former World Bantamweight (118 lb.) Champion, Ruben Olivares is
fighting his 'second bout' at 126 lbs. (Featherweight Division). After losing his
Bantamweight Championship by an 'upset' Knock-out loss in 1972, as well as losing a
non-title bout to Rafael Herrara. 'Rock-A-Bye' Ruben had bounced back by scoring an
'impressive' Knock-out (KO 2) over #5 Super-Featherweight, Walter Seeley on
April 28, 1973 at The Forum (on the undercard of the Bobby Chacon vs. Chucho Castillo bout).

Ruben Olivares, is still 'the most popular fighter in California', and is looking to go
for the World Featherweight Championship. Though ranked as the #1 NABF and
#5 WBC Featherweight, many feel the 26 year-old Olivares is a bit 'shop-worn', as well as
burnt-out from the 'jet-setting night-life partying style.'

As for the 21 year-old San Fernando Valley 'Schoolboy' Bobby Chacon, he has only been a fight professional
for a mere '14-Months'. In that short time frame, the 'super popular kid' has fought '19-Bouts', all wins
with '17' Knock-outs. The hard-punching 'whirlwind' is on his way to a WBC Featherweight Championship bout,
and only has to knock off the faded, but still 'dangerous' former Bantamweight Champion, in this
'highly anticipated' Featherweight Elimination bout.

This will be the 'Schoolboy's' 13th-Bout at The Forum, and he will undoubtedly be the crowd favorite.
In his last bout here, on April 28, 1973 - Bobby rallied from an early-bout 'thumping' to stop (KO 10)
another former World Bantamweight Champion, Chucho Castillo.
