Feijao fails drug test

Former Strikeforce champion Rafael "Feijao" Cavalcante tested positive for a banned substance following a victory over Mike Kyle this past month at "Strikeforce: Heavyweight Grand Prix Final" event.

MMAFighting.com reported the failed test, though California State Athletic Commission Executive Officer George Dodd didn't disclose the substance.

MMAjunkie.com ([url]***.mmajunkie.com[/url]) has been unable to reach Dodd for further details.

Strikeforce officials have not released a formal statement, but Cavalcante's manager, Ed Soares, told MMAFighting.com they'll "fight it," meaning an appeal is likely.

Cavalcante (12-3 MMA, 5-2 SF) submitted Kyle in just 33 seconds at the May 19 event, which aired on Showtime from HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.

In addition to a one-year suspension, the CSAC issued the 31-year-old Cavalcante a $2,500 fine. The fighter earned a disclosed payday of $66,000 for the event, $33,000 of which came as a win bonus.

The victory, which is likely to be overturned to a no-contest barring a successful appeal, was Cavalcante's fifth in six fights. His lone defeat in the stretch came in early 2011 in a title loss to Dan Henderson, who eventually returned to the UFC.

The victory over Kyle was expected to earn Cavalcante a title shot with Gegard Mousasi for the vacant title later this year.

Not sure what the banned substance is but its probably easy to guess its likely hormones. This shit is beyond a farce.

Thats the standard fine buddy and a year off. They can fight elsewhere of course. But yes the fine is a joke and does nothing to prevent regular abuse or occurrences. Shits just the norm now.

He was never close to be in the UFC...if Mousasi signed another 6 fight contract with SF, nobody in the 205 divsion is making a switch to the UFC !!

Stoo I'm so frustrated for Mousasi...another ****in 6 fight contract with SF...they are wasting a guy with plenty of talent in some kind of bush league division...

I know alot of people here underestimate Mousasi because, at least IMO, he isn't "dedicated enough" to MMA...he just doesn't seems to give a single **** about from time to time...got plenty of hole in his game but DAMN is he talented.... !!

He's only 26 fella, too many wrestlers in the UFC ATM so makes sense he doesnt jump into the deep end as times on his side, assuming he's working on his weakness' that is. He'll get there eventually
