With all the talk about Martinez and JCC Jr it got me thinking of this kid. Personally I think he's a really exciting prospect, probably the most naturally gifted out of all the 2008 Olympics lot.
But he's in a seriously tough division, even at British level you've got people like Martin Murray and Matthew Macklin. So how far can he go? Just got his first 12 rounder under his belt so it'd be good to see him start to step it up a bit now. |

He defiantly has potential but he needs to fight for the British title or one of the top 5 in the domestic division in his next bout. He was lucky to get a shot at the commonwealth due to be vacated but he impressed with a quick demolition of a strong Tony Hill and a beautiful controlled fight against Bradley Pryce he defiantly is not ready yet for anything more than British or commonwealth.
I mean you got Eubanks Jr, Ryan Aston and Nick Blackwell so defiantly a good exciting decision. |

He's only 22 IIRC, he's got plenty of time, he's ready for the British title, what the hell is Martin Murray still doing with it, he clearly has no ambition of defending it.

As BA says he's still a baby really, he just got through twelve rounds against Pryce. Nick Blackwell's knocking about as well, While Murray, Macklin and Barker chase world honors the domestic scene will remain strong. Billy Joe hasn't got to rush he's just got to be matched well.

I don't think he's got the power to really mix it with the higher echlons of the division. However he will challenge for world honors at some point and could come away with a belt. He's got speed and a good boxing IQ, i think he'll be a better version of Darren Barker.

Domestically, this division should be REALLY good within 18 months time.
Ryan Aston will be breaking through by then, Saunders will of probably fought Murray, Macklin or Barker as well. We'll be having some good times in this division by the end of 2013! |
