'Tough Argentinian Bulls' Jorge Victor 'Aconcagua' Ahumuda or better known as 'Mountain' Ahumuda. a) A solidly built 6' 0" 'brick wall'. A tough as nails fighter, who was 'in-your-face' for the whole fight. b) A good boxer, and a sharp hitter. c) Had a paralyzing left hook to the body, and was a very good counter-puncher. d) Not particularly fast, but could throw double left-hooks quickly. e) Liked to stay in close to utilize his strength, and to unload his heavy body punches. f) Best power-punch, the left hook. g) Defensively was fair, and could be hit. Started off in Argentina as a Middleweight, * Ran off a 30-1-0 (16 KO's) record through July 1970, and was rated as the #17 WBA Middleweight. * July 22, 1970.........Was upset (L KO 5) by Victor Galindez. * May 24 1971..........Got revenge by (W Dec 10) over Victor Galindez. * July 31, 1971..........Lost again (L KO 9) to Victor Galindez * October 31, 1971.....Lost again (L KO 6) to Victor Galindez * June 24, 1972.........(L Dec 10) to (#14 LH) Avenmar Peralta * June 24, 1972.........Record drops to 36-5-0. * November 10, 1972..(KO 5) over Avenmar Peralta * November 10, 1972..Record improves to 39-5-0 (20 KO's) * March 1, 1973.........Moves to New York, and is trained by Gil Clancy * 1972 thru 1974........In his last '13-bouts', Jorge Ahumada goes 12-0-1 (7 KO's). * May 1, 1974............The 28 year-old Ahumada, is ranked as the #6 WBC/#7 WBA Light-Heavyweight with a record of 48-5-1 (26 KO's) * June 17, 1974......Fights to a (Draw 15) with World Light-Heavyweight Champion, Bob Foster. * The bout with Bob Foster is considered 'highway robbery', as every boxing writer had Jorge Ahumada winning. * July 29, 1974...........(W Dec 12) over (#8 LH) Angel Oquendo in a WBC Light-Heavyweight Elimination bout. * September 16, 1974...Bob Foster announces his retirement. * September 1974........Jorge Ahumada is positioned as the #2 WBC Light-Heavyweight * October 1, 1974.......(L Split-Dec 15) to (#1 LH) John Conteh, for the vacant WBC Light-Heavyweight Championship. * January 1, 1975...With a record of 49-6-2 (26 KO's), is ranked as the #1 WBA Light-Heavyweight. * June 30, 1975.....(L Dec 15) to WBA Light-Heavyweight Champion, Victor Galindez. Correct, Unknown, Argentinian -Jorge Victor Ahumada (fighting out of New York City) out-muscles World Champion Bob Foster, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. This guy was supposed to be a 'safe opponent' for Champion Bob Foster. Every boxing writer in attendance had Jorge Ahumada winning by '3-points'. Scorecards; Judge;........144-144....EVEN Judge.........148-143....Bob Foster Referee;.....145-142....Jorge Ahumada Jorge Ahumada had '1-point' deducted in Round 10, for a low-blow he administered on Bob Foster. It was later called 'a retirement gift'. Last edited by Senor Pepe'; 06-25-2012 at 03:11 PM. |

For the 'vacant' WBC Light-Heavyweight Championship #2 WBC - Jorge Ahumada vs #1 WBC - John Conteh The bout could have been scored a Draw 15. Last edited by Senor Pepe'; 06-25-2012 at 01:33 PM. |

I watched the Ahumada-Galindez footage over the weekend. I felt Ahumada got the better of the 7 or 8 rounds available for viewing. He clearly got the better of Foster. This guy is growing on me quickly. I'll be watching Conteh-Ahumada asap.
