Default Butterbean

Who is this character?

I never heard of him. I was watching some fights on YouTube and clicked on one of his.

Here's a video compilation of his knockouts. They all look fake. He lunges and lays a glove on the opponent and he falls down for the count.

I thought it was some kind of joke until I read that he fought Larry Holmes.

Was he ever a contender?

His win over McNeely was very very funny though, actually showed good technique for a 400lb man.

This might spark some great fantasy match-ups.

Prime Dempsey vs Butterbean
Ali (1966) vs prime Butterbean

Butterbean is so ***y. I wish he'd get on top of me in bed and smother me with that gut. Butterbean would knock out prime Muhammad Ali and Joe Louis. Too ***y.

Excuse me but that was in his prime, when he was not far over 300lbs.

To me, Butterbean is nothing more than a novelty in the sport of boxing.

The true "King of 4 rounders". He's the only boxer I can think of that has made a career of taking 4 round fights, with only 2 fights in his 90 fight career going over that. He won a scheduled 8 rounder in 2 with a KO and lost a 10 round decision to Larry Holmes, age 53 at the time. So that should give you a clue as to his level of competition over the years. To say most of his opponents leave a lot to be desired is putting it mildly.

But, kudos to the guy for making a decent living at being a novelty act. He is fun to watch and when he lands that overhand right, his opponent usually goes down.
