Gabriel Campillo’s appeal to the IBF is denied

By Dan Ambrose: Former WBA World light heavyweight champion Gabriel Campillo’s appeal to the IBF to have an immediate rematch against International Boxing Federation (IBF) light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud (24-0, 19 KO’s) was denied by the IBF on Monday. Campillo, 33, lost by a 12 round split decision to Cloud last month on February 18th by the scores 115-111 for Capillo, and 116-110 and 114-112 for Cloud.

According to the above article he asked for a rematch and the IBF ignored him. I doubt if Cloud will fight him again anytime soon. So I think he will have to chase a fight with one of the other champions in the division. Hopefully he fights again this year.

Boxing Insider: I’m sure you want a rematch. Do you think you will get one?

Gabriel Campillo: “The only reason I would like a rematch to happen is because I think it is the only way to get the title. It is not a matter of pride, because I really do think that I have already shown the world that I am far better than Cloud. I am not sure if there will be a rematch, but it would be so nice to get the title, and to offer the Spanish fans—and also the American fans who have supported me—another great fight.

Boxing Insider: If you don’t get a rematch with Cloud, what will be next for you?

Gabriel Campillo: “Right now, I’m just thinking of resting. My manager Sergio Martinez, and my promoter Sampson Lewcowicz, have to decide which will be the next step for me.”

Cloud wont have his title for much longer but I'm sure Pascal will oblige.

I think Cloud will beat Pascal but I think he loses to Dawson or any decent boxer with a solid defense who uses lateral movement. He had no answer to anything Campillo was doing after round 1.

From Dan Rafael's chat Friday :

I am told that if DiBella can't finalize Erdei-Chilemba for the Sept. 29 HBO card that it could be Chilemba vs. Campillo instead. Also a very solid fight

Cloud showed what kind of champion he is by not offering Campillo a rematch

What is the point of loosing in front of every body except for the judges for the second time while you could fight Pascal in Montreal for way more money.

War Pascal!

Word is he was going to fly into the US for a press conference, but the airline gave the ticket he paid for to the more marketable customer standing behind him instead.

Dude just can't catch a break, which sucks. I've been on his bandwagon since the Shumenov fights.
