Let's get real for a minute. Where is the evidence that this guy is any kind of badass? Opening a gym in japan doesn't make you a badass. Training in Aikido, Jiu Jitsu, Judo and Karate in Japan and then the United States almost definitely doesn't make you a badass. Having thousands of rainbow coloured belts doesn't make you a badass, it shows you are a dedicated Martial Artist of a high level, but a Fighter at any level, not necessarily and very often not.

Fighting guys and winning makes you a badass.

"A prime Seagal was an extremely dangerous man."

Some evidence would be useful here?

I have a lot of respect for the pyjama brigade, but for their mastery of an art not their combat prowess. And as for that kick ….er….. slap in the opening post! 9 out of 10 times it fails and gets you in more trouble than you asked for!

I liked his early movies and think he's a good guy. I love the respect he gives Thailand where he's a very popular regular visitor and creates alot of excitement when he's in town. Especially when he plays his guitar with Ed Carabao or pays the bar fines for entire go go bars of which he is a frequent visitor. So I'm a fan of the personality.

There was no MMA back then!! It is that simple. WTF was he gonna do as a fighter.

No one had any ****in pro fights during Seagals prime.

Steven mastered Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Karate and he did every thing he could to be a complete martial artist. Even when the UFC started in the early 90's a lot of people called it human **** fighting and wanted it banned.

You have to talk to Kent Turnipseed. Probably the best firearms instructor in the world and ask him how good Seagal is at small firearms. Non of this karate, kung fu sports competition bs because when it comes to Martial arts (Military arts) Seagal is up there.

Steven's phenomenal reinvention of running is the reason why Michael Johnson is an Olympic legend

MMA has exsited since the 70s at least.

What he should have done to test some of his hypothetical "baddass" skills was what every other Karate, Kung Fu. TKD, MT, guy did at the time and that was test his skills in the new developing F/C Karate/Kickboxing arena. Every other so called movie badass of the period was doing it, interestingly enough ***y Steven didn't. Missed oppurtunity for a "badass" I'd say!
