27k is not much at all considering that at best they only have ~10 year career, +/- a few depending on circumstances. I'm not convinced anything other than a small minority will do well for themselves afterwards either.

And a lot of these guys on the podium squad are young, under 23 or what have ya so £27k at that age isn't half bad. And if/when they turn pro they probably get good deals cos of their amateur pedigree. |

Their earnings also depends on performance. When they medal at top tournaments they're income will go up. I think the funding is grouped in class a,b&c depending what turnaments you win etc

When I was involved they got their funding which is dependant on their world ranking and performances. The money is tax free, they also get their accommodation free, and a lot of their food/meals. When you compare to vast majority of pros then it's good money. They also have free access to nutritionists/S&C/coaching/gym/medical support/performance analysis/psychologists. They don't have to pay any coaching/gym fees. Also most will have some kind of sponsorship outside of this.

Yes as much as 27k tax free under and "amateur" system is pretty good. It shows what promoters have to deal with if they want to lure a top British am into the pro game. That a decent signing on fee and a fight by fight guarantee.

the salary they receive is on a fixed scale set by sport england and the coaches and support staff benefit earn far more than the boxers
