all amir seems to be talking about is his conditioning (strength). If he he doesn't bring anything new and better to his game on saturday then sod him..

Khan has retained the bad habits he had when he first went to train under Roach. He jumps in with wild flurries, end up off balance, and has zero inside game.
His best and most disciplined performance under Roach was against Kotelnik, but even here he used up a lot of energy staying out of trouble using footwork to get out of range after he threw instead of head and lateral movement. In every fight since then this part of his game has gone out of the window, as he's gone back to his gunfight mentality of old, hoping his handspeed and increased strength will do the trick. I agree that he's now too fixated on strength and conditioning rather than working on his skills. I think Garcia has a more than good chance of beating Khan on Sat. |

When Freddie wasnt there in the 1st sparring he was wild & all over the shop. The 2nd sparring with freddie watching he was much better. If that sparring was from a week or 2 ago it would be a worry, but that was earlier in camp as Freddie was away training Chavez for the Lee fight which was 4-5 weeks ago. And the convo at the end of 1st sparring with Ruben was very interesting. Ruben said "when u get him off balance & box him ur in charge" & khans response was "It looks boring". That's a worry if ur Freddie. He wants to get into a tear up to please the crowd instead of boxing & moving behind the jab.

My only fear for Khan this Saturday is that he gasses late and gets stopped, new trainer so he might not be as conditioned.
I wouldn't read too much into the sparring video though, except for the part about not wanteing to be boring. After a loss (a tainted one but still a loss) the only thing on Khan's mind should be getting a win. |
