Im not sure if I would pick Marco......but Im almost certain that we would watch a stand up fight. And there I think Marco had the advantage in skills and variety but not in power perhaps.....

Marco kept his hands very low back in the day, Don had a pretty orthodox boxing defence...a decent jab and put together some nice combo's too. Think Don's boxing would be the key here. he wasnt the brawler we saw after his Pro Wrestling stint...well, not as much of a brawler

If it did get to the ground, Id fancy Marco for a heel hook. But watch the Shamrock fight, Don dont tap!

Apparently Rua's was a good boxer himself. Be interested to see if he would be more active with his punches with gloves on. If I remember correctly his PRIDE fights were mostly ground affairs

Frye was seen as the best heavy in the world in the late 90's. Frye wins this easily for me. Out of all the heavys he had the best blend of boxing and wrestling.

Shame he took those 5 years off. But I guess there was more money in Pro Wrestling at the time. It's one of those Frank Shamrock/Bas Rutten type of what ifs

People get the wrong impression of Frye after his comeback. He was shot up with Lidocaine due to leg and back injuries making him slow and stiff, and he abandoned his boxing. The Shamrock fight also took a toll on his legs. His competition wasnt the best in the UFC days, but he still was a much more technically sound fighter than the one people are more familiar with

Still the old dog gave us two of the most memorable fights in MMA history though

I think the fight would go all 30 minutes, and end in a draw.

If they fought under today's rules, I think Frye would win a decision. Rua had a tendency to be too passive. There is no way Taktarov should have been out striking him, and yet it happened.

If they fought original UFC rules, with no time limit, Rua eventually subs Frye.

Interesting fella, I guess the rules would make a difference. But I still cant see Ruas getting past Fryes punches. Don could be hurt at times, but it's not like he carried a lot of power, but that may be due to fighting bare knuckled. I think he'd be eating more jabs than Frye would with the leg kicks

Maybe Im underestimating Marco's toughness though, but I think Frye would push the pace and be stronger and stop it before the 30 minutes are up myself. Cant see Marco getting the TD either

I think Frye is a prototype of JDS.

Great hands with above average ground ability.

Ruas crumbles against the cage, Don Frye punches him out 4 minutes in..

I can see Frye rushing in, trying to finish it early and taking advantage of Ruas taking a while to warm up. Ruas isn't easily finished though, and he covers up and recovers, and starts using movement and leg kicks to tire out Frye and slow him down.

I'd go Ruas by a late TKO.

The op specified the 30 min time limit, with the fight being declared a draw if it goes the distance. I think it has a good chance of going the distance. Ruas was only stopped 3 times, and 2 of those losses were to Maurice Smith. I think if this fight takes place in the day of no stand-ups and continuous rounds, Frye's chances of stopping Ruas diminish the longer the fight goes. I think this fight turns into a grappling match within the first 5 minutes. At that point, I think Frye assumes top control and scores often from top position. I give Frye the benefit of doubt in making to the bell without getting submitted.
If winning by decision were an option, I think Frye would win.
