Honestly, sometimes I feel like my sole purpose for coming on this forum is too hate on Quarry. If I could travel back in time I would, just to call Quarry a crakker

Lyle was green when he fought Quarry and would have beat Quarry in a rematch.

Shavers would have stopped Quarry in the 2nd round had he gotten there... Shavers wasn't shit anyway.

Mac Foster really wasn't shit.

Patterson should have went 2-0 vs. Quarry.

Was clearly beat by Machen and Ellis.

Stopped by Chuvalo, Ali x2, Frazier x2, and Norton... didn't make it past the 7th round vs. any of them.

What else did he do?

I am not quite certain...But, I am getting the impression that you are not sold on Quarry nor a vocal supporter of his??? I will read a few more posts though before I make a rash judgement.

To be honest, Quarry was fun to watch sometimes. The fact that he was white certainly did not hurt his career.

He gave Patterson two tough fights and a case can be made for either man in either one of their 2 fights.

His loss to Ellis was a close fight.

He got better after the loss to Machen.

I stand by what I said regarding Lyle though.

As for Shavers? He got beat fair and square but he wasn't the most durable guy I've ever seen.

Foster? He wasn't much to be honest.

The KO losses were pretty one sided IMO and Quarry's offense in these fights gets blown out of proportion.

Styles suit Quarry, a more complete boxer and his chin neutralises Ingo's power

It's a tough call. Johansson only lost to Patterson 2 out of 3 but he didn't face the likes of Ali x2, Frazier x2, or Norton. However, Quarry also lost to Chuvalo and others as well.

Ingo got those quick KOs vs. Machen and Patterson and they look very good... especially when you consider Machen outboxed Quarry. Ingo stopped Patterson and that is bigger than Quarry's draw and win vs. Patterson... but Patterson never stopped Quarry (he was past prime when he facesd Quarry though).

I'm gonna lean toward Johansson by late round TKO. I think Ingo had a little more than what he showed us. Had he fought a few more top fighters maybe we would have seen it?

Johannsson had had habit of throwing his right hand with his left hand extended...Now, how you can generate power that way is beyond me, and anything I have learned about punching in close to 40 years in and around boxing. But before I go on and say that I am uncertain about the legitimacy of some of his victories, let me say this: The habit mentioned above would get him splattered by a guy with a good left hook.
Quarry was no world beater, nor was he great. he was a good, solid, tough pro, and he had issues that sometimes kept him from being as good as he could have been. Inegmar flat out sucked. How he beat Machen is a mystery, unless you fast forward to Neillssen and his ko over Witherspoon...I really have no respect for him at all.
In boxing, money has always talked, and, in those days, a loss didn't matter so much, especially when it was common knowledge that you were supposed to lose to get paid.

I would discount Frazier and Norton in any fight against Foreman too, what does that prove?

Quarry was just below the top tier in the Heavyweight division, it was a very strong era back then, but his demolition of Ernie Shavers sticks in my mind.

It proves he could be discounted, contrary to an earlier assertion.

I like Quarry a lot on film, nice technique, aggressive, good tools. But he was a little small for the division and had major issues, thanks largely to his father. Due to these factors he wasn't a consistent performer.

Didn't his father force him to go ahead with the Norton fight even though Jerry had a broken bone in his back? He was all shot up with painkillers and couldn't do shit in the ring. With parents like that, who needs enemies.

quarry was too sloppy for johansson. there is no doubt that johansson would land some big punches and it would soon be over. im not sure why anyone would pick quarry in this matchup, unless you're a patriotic american, of course.

Quarry took too many punches.
Johansson would knock him out.
