out of those listed: Duran-SRL Frazier-Ali Charles-Walcott SRL-Hagler (Good performance, but past prime for both and a draw on my card) Chavez vs Whitaker- I disagree with the announcers and the world...JCC was past prime weight and I still scored it a draw...don't believe the hype! |

I'm going to go against what appears to be the grain here, and pick Walcott-Charles. For starters, it was the most dominant performance of the bunch, and the only one to be ended by KO. I would also argue that Walcott's feat was the most seemingly improbable of the bunch - winning the HW title at age 37, against a much younger man who had already beaten him twice, and ending it with a single punch. I would also argue that Charles was the most accomplished of the losing fighters heading into his loss - remember, Ali and Leonard would go on score most of their biggest victories after losing. Also, Charles may be the only of the losing fighters that was still at his peak heading into the loss - Leonard was still a bit green, Ali was definitely a bit past it, Hagler and possibly Chavez were slightly past it was well.

Hearns vs Leonard is one of the best boxing performances i've seen untill the last 2/3 rounds before the KO. Not saying it should be counted because at the end of the day it was a loss, but just thought it was worth a mention.

"I've been chasing this guy for two years," he said of Chavez. "I tried to meet him at lightweight and then at junior welterweight, and now I'm 147. We'll fight at 147. I'm not going to keep giving him alternatives just to keep him happy."
Yet, there was still an alternative. Chavez threatened to pull out when an American judge was appointed. |

You know I actually think, having listened to a whole bunch of Foremans' commentary, that he was a knowledgeable guy. He just wasn't particularly articulate and was a contrarian by nature, which led to some of his more notable nonsense. You would have to be stubborn, to believe you could win the title back at that age. Yep. It would have been a much better fight though. I think their actual encounter was boring and foul filled. |
