Thumbs down Tony Abbott - Former boxer?

Quote:
Walking away from a fight does not always feel good, says Opposition Leader Tony Abbott, but it might be "the best thing you ever do in your life".

Mr Abbott, a heavyweight on Oxford University's boxing team in the 1970s, said the sport was one of the most challenging things he did as a young person. "It taught me many things, including the power of a single punch," he said.
While he joked that his “cauliflower ears” were a daily reminder of his time as a boxer, Mr Abbott said news.com.au’s Real Heroes Walk Away campaign had important message about senseless street violence.
He said although a single punch in the ring could be dangerous, this was "multiplied exponentially when it's delivered on a concrete footpath or crowded pub or club".
"I don't pretend that walking away always feels good but it might be the best thing you ever do in your life," Mr Abbott told news.com.au.

"Alcohol-fuelled violence is destroying too many young lives and that's why I am supporting the Real Heroes Walk Away campaign."
Mr Abbott said he backed the campaign as a member of Parliament but also as a father of three girls, because it was about helping young people understand they have a choice in responding to provocation.
It's tragic two lives can be destroyed with just one punch, Mr Abbott said. "In an instant, one young bloke can become a casualty and another a criminal."
"We need to teach our young men that being a man can mean walking away when provoked."
Mr Abbott said making our streets safer would involve better services where young people congregate late at night, strong policing, cracking down on illegal drugs and responsible service of alcohol.
Politicians of all stripes have backed news.com.au's call for change on the issue of violence.
Prime Minister Julia Gillard, NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell, Queensland Premier Campbell Newman, SA Premier Jay Weatherill and ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher have all thrown their support behind the campaign. [Only registered and activated users can see links. ]

I did'nt know this about Tony. TBH his jumped a few notches in my books despite being a complete tossa. Below is a pic on Tony fighting as a heavyweight on Oxford University's boxing team. Not sure which one he is

I'm suprised he dosent use his boxing background to connect to the younger genteration. Should he get voted in next election could we see a revamp of the am boxing system in Oz?

Thoughts on Tony please

Whats Labor & the Greens got to do with me lambasting him for being a bible basher, Moralistic & sanctimonius??

I admire Gillard for having the conviction to come out & say she is Agnostic or an Athiest, i cant remember which exactly, whilst Abbott moralises about Abortion & takes every oportunity to do the American thing of leaning on religion as a political tool

I dont like people pushing religion, i dont agree with anti Abortion, i dont like ****phobes & people who get all precious about their version of marriage etc, me & Julia are still coming to terms on that last one, at least she's for a conscious vote, i'd be happy with Penny Wong as prime minister also
