Can somebody be banned for being retarded? I think Highguard should be made an example of. His "I mean defined not ripped" spiel made me dumber just by reading it. May god have mercy on our souls.

HighGuard, here's the issue. I don't think anyone here has issues with weight training when it involves strength training for performance (think squats, deadlifts, etc). It's "Bodybuilding" where some have issues with. Why? Because it's for appearance not performance. And actually detrimental, when you consider added weight, lack of flexibility etc. Having an extra 1" on your arms won't make a damn bit of difference in the ring.

Now running is a different matter. Running is probably the easiest, most basic and most traditional form of conditioning. It's very versitle when you consider LSD, tempo runs, intervals, sprints, hills, etc. It also strengthens the legs and toughens the mind. The only real downside of running is injuries...

I apologize if I am adding a voice of reason here.

Nah, let him be. He's like a retarded Bane, just terrorizing this thread with stupidity for no clear reason. I'm willing to sit it out to eventually see his grand master plan. Shine on you crazy diamond! Shine on!

i like your statement in general, however when you say the only downside of running is injuries,
my friend isnt that supposed to be the biggest downside of any activity.....

about your statement of weight training vs bodybuilding...
i do see your point but squats and deadlifts are also a huge part of bodybuilding and when people want to know how to do them properly, they often read bodybuilding books or ask bodybuilders,

you mentioned injuries, bodybuilding does have some negatives as you mentioned but it is excellent for injury rehab, i know from personal experience and helps with getting stronger as well....

you mentioned looks, well yes bodybuilding is done by many people for this but so it is running....
example-i look too skinng so i start to lift weights
or i look to fat, ok time to start running

and when you mentioned toughening the mind, i dont think running is much tougher then lifting to failure which many bodybuilders do

and just like you said about running being versitle
so is lifting weights-bodybuilding, i mean there are a ton of excerises for anything you can think of

The point has seemingly went straight over your head. Bodybuilding, as a 'sport' is crafting a physique that is considered 'aesthetically pleasing', by having as much muscle mass and as little body fat as possible and training for that purpose is absolutely pointless and detrimental to boxing performance. Yes most bodybuilders squat and deadlift, but that doesn't make them exclusively bodybuilding exercises, so I'm not really sure what your point was there.

I think most people up to date in this forum agree that weight training is a great tool to help with boxing, but training like a bodybuilder for boxing is retarded.

ofcourse training like a bodybuilder is retarded for a boxer, but so is training like a long distance runner,

and while you will be all to ready to pick on "bodybuilding style" training
why do you get so mad when i do the same for other side....

and when i mention the drawbacks of training like a long distance runner
ex,injuries, possible loss of muscle, lack of physical power etc
it gets ignored just the videos i posted
