I swear Sonny Liston walked him down like he was an unranked fringe contender who got blasted out by Satterfield in his only big fight at the time
Williams was rated # 10 when Liston beat him in 1960...try again

yes, in the second fight he was #10. Not really the point though.

Interesting, apparently Ali's wingspan shrunk an inch since the Liston fight while growing taller. Williams also shrunk 2 inches in height.

Love this pic because it gives an idea of Liston's reach and overall dimensions. His shoulders are just about at the same height as Foreman's, yet his arms go beyond the picture (whereas you can see GF's hand). Though GF is craning his neck a bit forward, it's still obvious that he wasn't much taller than Sonny. 6'1 seems about right for Liston.
George Foreman is 6' 3 to 6' 4. Liston is proably around 6' 0. Even though it doesn't look 3 inches of a difference in the photo....it is. It happens when people stand next to each other, the gap is shorter than it is...if that makes sense.

Liston's reach is nowhere near 84". Wladmir Klitschko's is listed as 81" and he stands 6' 6".

Really? Because I thought he looked just young enough to be Muhammad's red-headed stepchild. ...Not ginger enough, but young enough, you know.

William Faversham Jr. (Louisville Sponsoring Group)

Mr. Faversham, The President of 'LSG' and Cassius Clay's manager,
sent two of his associates to St. Francis County (eastern Arkansas)
to dig up some information on Charles Liston, sometime in 1963.

They found some residents who knew of the Liston Family, and after
making a few contacts with locals in Sand Slough, found out that
Sonny was 5 years-old in 1932.

He and some other young kids used to play at Big Bear Lake.

Sonny Liston was also caught using a Senior Discount in a Diner to purchase two doughnuts and a coffee in 1963. This would make him at least 55 year of age and possibly the oldest reigning HW Champion. Another great achievement for Mr. 84 inch that has been swept under the rug of history.

Hey Mongsoose,

In 1962, when Sonny was training up at South Fallsburg, New York -

He used to go down to Joe's Crab Shack at 4:30 PM, and sneak in a
'Senior Citizen Early Bird Special'

The Menu

* Cassius Crab Cakes
* Shrimp a la Clay
* Big Mouth Clay Bass

For dessert,,,,,,,,,'Devil's Food Cake'
