Default jerry quarry vs henry cooper!!!

both have something in common: both twice fought ali and both got stopped on cut each time.

cooper has one plus in this comparison, cause he dropped ali. quarry didnt.

anyway, who wins it??

i like quarry by ko. cooper didnt have the chin for his bombs imo.

I would also go with Quarry, but with a late TKO because of cuts. Quarry did have underrated power, but Cooper would make a close fight until the 9th round (5-3 rounds for Quarry).

Quarry TKO 9 Cooper

I like this matchup. I think Quarry would likely win by mid round TKO. The thing is i just watched Quarry vs. Frazier...The way Quarry went toe to toe with him was exciting. I just don't see Cooper taking that type of punishment and surviving.

Quarry TKO 9 Cooper

of course cuts could always play a part with cooper, but i just cant see coopers chin holding up under quarrys counterpunches.

thats why id go more for a clear cut ko.

Patterson/Cooper all over again. 'Enery simply didn't have a world class chin, and Quarry wasn't the tall target for Cooper that Ali was. I don't think cuts would have been a factor.

The Empire's best potential opponent for Jerry during the course of his career would have been Joe Bugner, who simply wouldn't play into Quarry's counterpunching hands.

Quarry by kayo.

In fact, in his autobiography, Cooper admits that he and his manager wanted no part of Quarry. He wrote that he would have been a wide open target for Quarry's counter right hand.

Cooper was good but he lacked the durability to hand in there with a durable, skilled banger like Quarry.

If these men fought during the mid to late 60's when Quarry was just coming up, then I'd have to go with the more seasoned Cooper. Henry was a tricky fighter and a much better one than people give him credit for. He was tough, and had a lot of tricks up his sleeve. As for durability, Quarry may have had the slightly better chin, but both men had the tendency to cut and bleed, as well as having similar endurance level. A lot of people credit Quarry as being the harder puncher, but neither were terribly devastating in that department. Now, if we were to take a 1973 version of Jerry Quarry who was fully developed in his career, vs a peak Cooper around 1962/63, then I'd have to go with Quarry. By this time, Jerry had proven that he could beat fighters who were truly at a world class level, and who's skill and confidence had surpassed anything that even a prime Cooper could have dealt with. This is not to say that Cooper couldn't have been a threat to him, but the statistics and career acheivments are far more in favor of Jerry.

Quarry would have no fear and would just walk in and start banging.

If that didn't work, then he would just do it again next round.

Cooper simply didn't have the chin to hang in there with Quarry.

Cooper always said that the main reason that he didn't want to fight Quarry was that Quarry was a short heavyweight. Cooper developed a problem with his left shoulder later in his career and couldn't throw the hook properly against a short target.

Cooper couldn't do anything right in the Patterson fight, but on a good day he would have given Quarry a good fight. Cooper split two fights with Zora Foley, who hit at least as hard as Quarry.

I like 'aul 'Enry but peak for peak Quarry is the better fighter and more durable of the two. He hits hard too and more than had the ability to box and mix it up. Cooper would put on a game performance, but be behind on the cards- before being stopped on cuts near the mid-rounds.

Quarry TKO7.
