Default Rios: Alvarado brawl will conjure Corrales-Castillo, Gatti-Ward

Rios says he wants his fight with Alvarado to be remembered like the Gatti-Ward or Castillo-Corralles fights. I know it'll be a great fight and I hope it is as good as Rios wants it to be.

From the man himself-

"I want those types of fights that are going to be like Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward, or the Corrales-Castilo fight. Those are the types of fights that I've been wanting, so everybody is going to not want to miss it," said Rios, who will meet Alvarado at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., on Oct. 13.

"I'm so looking forward to this fight. This is the type of fight that I've been looking forward to for my career. It's the sort of fight that I've wanted for the longest. So everybody has to go and get their tickets because this is going to be a violent, bloody fight. A real good fight."

I'm sure he said exactly the same thing going into his fights with Antillon and Murray. It would be the devil's fate that Alvarado finally gives him what he wants only for him to end up in the losing corner.

I like Rios, he's fun to watch, but his victories require footnotes. Antillon was outside the top 15/20, Murray was not even the best LW in GB and he was way off-form against Abril. The repeated weight issue has also left sour notes.

His best win is still Acosta who was outboxing him until the midway point. Turned on it's head, though, Rios came-from-behind to eventually grind Acosta down. It's a good win, can't take much away from that.

The better Brit to take on Rios would have been Mitchell. A boxer can give Rios trouble, as has been proven.

What happens when a slugger can stand up to Rios without getting himself Antillon'd or Murray'd?

I think I'd see what others see in Rios if he had a couple *great* wins, not just a couple good ones. A 12 round war would be one… and figuring out someone like Marquez would be two. Or even Matthysse or Garcia. There's better fights at 140lbs. I hope Rios continues to take part in them after Alvarado

If Rios pulls this off from a hell of a fight, then I consider him a bigger G more than Broner says here.

I think that would be someone like Matthysse. Alvarado doesn't quite fit that mold. He was quite easy to hit until journeyman Prescott ran out of gas in their fight. In any case, Rios-Alvarado will be nothing but action. Rios, in my opinion, is a better puncher than Alvarado but that's assuming Rios can carry his power to 140.

No I mean I don't think he said that, Rios is the rightful favourite in this one but he could just as easily lose. I don't care I just hope it lives up to this billing

I agree with this.

It's a pick 'em fight on paper, but I think Rios has the will to win more than Mike...

Prescott has losses, but he isn't a 'journeyman.' Prescott is underrated, plus he boxes on the outside behind a jab so don't talk about the Alvarado/Prescott fight when making a Rios/Alvarado prediction.

Should be a great fight. But I think Rios is a slightly stronger, more durable brawler, and will edge it. Alvarado is probably running more confident, though. He's had two brilliant wins in a row, whereas Rios has had two below-par peformances (one where he lost) coming in.

Bam Bam is must watch TV. He looks great when the guy is there to be hit. You don't have to look for Mile High Mike.

Rios figures to win, but an Alvarado win shouldn't surprise anybody.
