Who else can the argument be made for to fit into this utmost top echelon. Armstrong comes to mind but a relatively short prime hinders him just enough. Ali certainly has a case. Duran has a case in my mind but again comes up just short. I don't think the dust has settled enough on the fighter of the past 20 or 30 years to properly place them but I suspect none qualify to threaten anyone in this group.

I don't think Louis even comes close to top 5 status.

For me Charles has to be 5th and round out the top 5.

Louis deserves this place, the most dominant fighter ever in the history of Boxing is worthy of this place for sure, that´s my view....

And this one may be a bit controversial, but IMO Joe Gans is a top 5 worthy as well....I don´t know if I would rate him there though......

On what basis do you say this?

Louis reigned in a piss-weak division, and still found time to get knocked out in his prime by Max Schmeling.

You could make arguments for Pep, Monzon, Robinson, and more, it's not clear-cut.

And what's more important than 'dominance'? Resume is. And Ezzard Charles has Louis beat HANDS DOWN in this, THE most important one of all.

Louis was a bit pre-prime against MS....only his second year as a pro. Not a big deal IMO.....

I just don´t think the "resume is the mos important thing" is always true, you know......
I give a LOT of value to resume, of course....but if we do that all the time we can be unfair with certain fighters IMO.

Louis being THE Champion for a long time, looking so good like he did gives him a good enough valuation that compensates his "lack" of ATGs in his resume....
That´s my view. Due to the H2H ability he shows on video he was actually UNLUCKY to not have a Foreman for example, to face in his days.....

Yeah, I thought of Benny Leonard myself. I have a problem with the fact that a bunch of his fights were 4-8 rounders. Some of those ended in KO, which boosts things of course. For opposition alone he's definitely up there somewhere.

That's why Louis makes my top 10. He's the only HW I could never completely rule out on a fantasy match up even with his fragilities.
