Default Bruno v Tyson 1 first round

have there been many better first rounds in proper Heavyweight world title fights ? the punchbag gets bowled over early on, recovers, stuns the untouchable champion, and does a whole lot better than many expected... watch it again Bruno was loads more aggressive against Tyson than many others who fought him.

It's a shame Bruno wasn't really a "fighter", he had tyson buzzed up in that round

I think many people forget how Bruno actually fought that first fight, unlike the second one which everyone remembers him just freezing

Like you say Earl he could have put Tyson down I reckon if he'd thrown some better punches at the end of that first round.

Tyson was stunned from getting hit.

Bruno was stunned he hurt him.

At the end of the day Tyson handled that moment better, sadly.

Bruno was a can opener that never really cut it when he stepped up.

Not true, he lacked self confidence. Nervous tension too often cost him in big fights. Although Tyson and Lewis would of beaten him anyway, despite spirited efforts in TysonI and the Lewis bout, the defeats to Smith and Witherspoon would of not been so, if somehow Bruno was more relaxed.

Victories over Coetzee, Bugner, Coetzer and Williams showed he was not a bad fighter, when he was confident in his ability to win.

Nervous because he knew he was made out of glass I suspect. Those rabbit punches against Tyson here deserved a DQ!

I think his best win there is probably an old Joe Bugner. Coetzer was tough but really a cruiser, Coetzee never trained at all for the fight and Williams had been KO'd the fight before Bruno, by Morrison I think.

Glass jawed? He had a very solid chin, did you some of them bombs that bounced off his chin by Messrs Smith, Tyson and Lewis? Look at that punch Jumbo detonated on him, The Bomber was still upright!

I would agree his most complete performance was against Bugner. Coetzer weighed in at around 215. He was a Heavyweight, particularly when you think a 'Cruiserweight' could only weigh 190 in his era. Coetzee was barely a year removed from being WBA world Heavyweight title holder, and was their number one contender going into the Bruno bout, coming off a decision over a still 'Quick' James Tillis. Williams had indeed decked Morrison twice pre Bruno.
