Default A Josha the truth in print

Never thought I'd read this in the British press by Jeff Powell:

this is the comment I was suprised to see:-

"The harsh but simple truth is that Joshua would have been unlikely to win gold if these Games had been held anywhere except in Britain.

It was not only in the final – in which most of the world outside the ExCel arena deemed Italy’s Roberto Cammarelle a fairly comfortable winner – that our Anthony benefitted from home advantage in the ears of the judges.

A deeper disservice was performed against the opponent in Joshua’s first fight of the tournament.

Erislandy Savon, nephew of legendary Cuban Felix Savon, was by far the best of the big men at London 2012. Of the 15 marks awarded by the judges – five for each of the three rounds – Joshua found favour only twice. "

nobody cares about this anymore

nobody cares about Savon either, maybe in another 4 years he can try again

It's funny how people are raving about Savon because of that fight "the best in the tournament" they howl.

These people don't seem to understand amateur boxing is a ****ing lottery, it's a 3 round sprint anything can happen

oh and as for "if goldenboy could sign one future heavyweight champion, it'd be Savon"

Here's the "great" savon getting his glass jaw smashed a few months ago by the Azerbaijani, golden boy might want to check that out before opening the cheque book

It's a lottery heavily stacked in favor of some (usually home or AIBA protected) fighters.

it is what it is.

fact is as often or not, amateur results mean sweet **** all in the pros, AND people like this Daily Drivel writer are ignorant of Amateur results outside of the Olympics

Savon got KTFO by the Azerbaijani roadsweeper in the worlds, Joshua beat Cammarale Soundly, and then got robbed by that same Azerbaijani in the final

nobody paid a blind bit of notice.

Lets just wait till they turn pro, then we will see whats what

I said all of this the night after the Savon fight. Glad to see someone else knows the deal.

It means a hell of a lot when it comes to marketing, and in turn . Joshua was never going to walk away with anything other than a gold medal, far too much money to be made from him, for the powers that be he's a ****ing dream.

The results aren't too important to my mind(aside from the commercial bonus gold medals give you), but the constant exposure to worldclass amatuer fighters at the worlds or Olympics can be a really good thing.
