For training, get the color u fancy, it doesn't make a difference
The explanation about red for locals is fine
yet, there are psychological issues on color perception - letting aside, red reads out better than, say, black - in nature red is a significant color, no just one more, I bet there is some extensive reading out there on the matter
But I agree, it's just one factor and a fighter's personal talent is always above that
