Default The History of Boxing with Emanuel Steward Part IV: Amateur Boxing

I thought some of you guys might be interested in this particular piece. He discusses the amateur careers of guys like Mark Breland, Howard Davis, Leonard, Hearns, Sweet Pea, Roy Jones, Floyd, Big George, Teofilo Stevenson, and more.

I found his story about Pernell and Camacho especially interesting myself.

Interesting what Emanuel said about the Cubans and the 1984 team, and Ray Leonard, and the golden gloves.

Agreed, and I think he made some outstanding points regarding the Cuban Team.

Wow great read, thanks Rumsfeld! It's crazy reading how sweet pea was tooling Camacho in sparring when he hasn't even turned pro yet.

Indeed , and he also made a great point about Ronnie Shields fighting in the 1976 National Golden Gloves. If he had beaten Sugar Ray Leonard in a matchup, the whole scenario concerning Leonard's career, could have changed.I'm surprised he never offered to train Howard Davis Jr, would have made him a better fighter.I wonder how Steward felt about guys like Bernard Taylor, Jimmy Clark, and Alex Ramos.
