Original Rocky for me.
I have to disagree mate.

I could understand if the role was a ficticious then it may be unnecessarily 'dramatic', but if you see any footage of the real Dicky Eklund, such as in the Making of doc, then you'll see it is absoulutely spot on; Dicky Eklund was/is a crazy guy!

He gives a very true performance, but it was self-consciously Oscar-baiting. And frankly, the film is utterly pointless - Ward's story is dull.

the biggest disappointing boxing related film for me was Ali. A true biopic would be a 3 hour plus film but its hard to fit so much in..

Agreed mate, it had so much potential; great director, remarkable lead performance and a big budget, it could/should have been 'the greatest' boxing film yet.

I have read though that there was a huge amount cut from the cinema release, and that there is a 4 hour directors cut.

Hopefully they will eventually release it on some sort of Blu Ray collectors edition.

yeah plenty were cut out. There were more scenes with malcolm x and Ali's passionate ties with the NOI and Islam..but it was wise for them to remove that due to the 9/11 atrocities.Remember when Smith walked out with Ali to speak against terrorism etc?/

Yes, I'd forgotten about that!

There was that big televison thing in America not long after 9/11 where loads of celebrities spoke about the situation; I do remember the two of them, Ali was very much saying that Islam is about peace and the creatures that carried out the attacks were not of that religion.

I thought Will Smith was awful as Ali. I love Michael Mann's movies in general, but Ali just sucks.

Dempsey with Treat Williams is not bad, Marciano with Jon Favreau not so much, the Joe Louis in that movie looks more like ****ing Usher

I enjoyed the film. The ending was fine, the Gatti fights are great to watch "in real life" but how do you end a piece of drama with 3 points decision fights?
