Stevie G,

Most of the Rock Bands were only getting about $5000 per gig in 1968,,,,,

Very few were getting more...

Muhammad Ali was on the circuit with Dr. Timothy Leary, Andy Warhol and Abbie Hoffman.

The 'college circuit' was a pretty good tour,,,,,,,at least you had the 'summer' off...

He interviewed Manson once in prison and wrote an article about it.

Manson was a scum bag. Leary was a little higher tier than Manson.

John - If Pepe had an agenda agianst the bloke in your avatar like he does against Ali,he'd swear that 'Two Ton Ted' from Teddington would have beaten Ernie the milkman much earlier if the widow named as Sue did n't like cocoa !!

Actually,,,,,,,

That was Dr. Timothy Leary's first statement,,,,,,,,'Tune In, Tune On, Drop Out',,,

He made that statement on a college radio station.

He later changed the phrase, and recorded an album with the title of,

"Turn On, Tune In, Drop Out"

I first became aware of Mr Leary through a John Lennon song. Very much a 'professional hippy'

Don't Cry For Clay,,,,,,,,,,

He spent his money foolishly.

Then he got rid of LSG, who guided him to the Championship, and made
sure he invested his fight purse properly.

Am I the only one bothered and troubled by the fact that Senor Pepe, who used to call himself "Il Duce" (The nickname of a facist dictator allied with the Nazis) continues to refer to Ali as "Clay" given the socio-political implications of doing so?

Were you bothered by Jet Magazine, Ebony Magazine and Negro Digest
calling him Cassius Clay.

What are the socio-political implications of calling him Clay?

Not long ago, Pepe posted a letter Clay wrote in 1966 and signed it "Cassius". Was Clay guilty of the same infraction that Senor Pepe is?

If a neighbor announced that henceforth he wanted to be called Bozo The Clown, would feel compelled to call him that? If you knew his name was John Smith would you feel an obligation to start referring to him as Bozo?

Cassius Clay, in his own writing filled out his appeal documentation, by signing Cassius Clay.

And Jim Brown, referred to him as Cassius Clay all through this interview. And not once, did
Mr. Clay try to correct Jim Brown, or threaten him by saying 'What's My Name ?

Ali clearly and plainly was bothered by the idea of someone refusing to call him his adopted name as opposed to his slave name.

And that is the point, he changed his name, and is now universally accepted as Ali.

In 1966 and 67 its understandable because most didnt take him seriously or understand his motivations or the depth of his commitment to Islam.

We arent living in 1966 or 1967. Stick with the time frame. To call him Clay, a name he identifies with a slave name is offensive, which is exactly why Mussolini here keeps doing it.

Its just another idiotic back handed slap at Ali, like the vast majority of Mussolinis posts.

Its sad that I have to spell that out to people on here, but then again I watched a preview for the new movie about Lincoln that my son showed me online last night and underneath it were comments by some calling Lincoln a murderer, guilty of genocide and the deaths of 600,000 Americans.

Such is the climate we live in today, two steps forward one step back.
